Smile Does Anyone Remember New Zoo Revue?

Does anyone remember a show from the 1970's called New Zoo Revue??? As a youngster I used to watch this show. This was a children's show and it had Doug and Emmy Jo on there. There was Freddie the Frog, Henrietta Hippo, and I don't know right off the name of the Owl that was on there. Also Chuck Woolery played Mr. Dingle the postman(in an old person's costume). Does anyone remember this show??? I can remember the theme song goes something like this: "It's The New Zoo Revue Coming Through At You"

Default i can faintly recall the show

I remember the show faintly. it used to air at 11:30am on WHIO in Dayton but all i can recall is seeing life size puppets of a hippo and a frog dancing near a gazebo? did this scene happen or am i dreaming? well, i never watched the show because my mom watched The Price is Right at 11pm and it runs an hour. When it was over she turned it to the Dayton news at Noon on WHIO and i'd see the last few minutes of New Zoo Revue.

Nope, you aren't dreaming. Those things happened at the beginning of the show where they sang the theme song. The last time I saw New Zoo Revue it was in reruns and that was back in 1979 when I was 8 years old when it aired on our CBS affiliate KENS-Channel 5 in San Antonio and it was on at 6:00 A.M. in the morning. The show originally aired from 1972 to 1974 with new episodes, and they have repeated the shows, mainly on religious or public TV,since then.

Default New Zoo Revue

I remember the New Zoo Revue. The show was an educational musical comedy that taught young viewers on subjects like the importance of school and courage. Even memorable were the costumed characters Henrietta Hippo, Charlie the Owl and my favorite Freddie the Frog, who had a distinctive laugh. The two humans on the show Doug Momary (Doug) and Emily Peden (Emmy Jo) are real-life husband and wife.

La la la la la la la la la la la la la la la.
It's the New Zoo Revue
Coming right at you.
Where three delightful animals
Have fun with what they do.

They learn with their friend Doug
And his helper Emmy Jo.
With Freddie! Charlie! HENRIETTTTA!
We have fun learning what we don't know.

Elegant and feminine is Henrietta Hippo.
Very wise and very smart is Charlie the Owl. (HOOOO!)
Lots of fun but lots of heart is Freddie the Frog.
It's quite an unusual thing.
The animals talk and sing.
With Doug and Emmy Jo
Every day's a different show.

It's the New Zoo Revue
Coming right at you.
It's the New Zoo Revue
coming right at you.

I totally remeber watching this show as a kid in the seventies. Didnt this show have a character called Gary Gnu that did the "gnews" . Hey i also miss seeing all the cool SchoolHouseRock commercials. Man those were the days. Speaking of old shows, does anyone remember a show called "Electric Company" or something like that. i think it came on PBS back in the early/mid seventies.

Cast
Doug Mommary (Doug)
EmilyPeden (emmy *swoon* Jo)
Chuck Woolery (Dingle)
Bob Holt/Bill Callaway (charlie Owl)
Joni Robbins (Freddie Frog)
Hazel Shermet (Henriette Hippo)
One of the characters was costum played by 1950s Mousekteer Sharon Baird, who's done many such stuf (several others are Felix Silla and Patty Maloney, the latter of whom did cartoons voices as well.Neither of these were on NZR,though)

Wow that sounds like fun. I don't have any special memories, just sitting in front of the tv in my house in NC watching the show and playing on the floor.
