Was there ever a sister on the show, or mentioned?

No mention of any sisters in the Cleaver family is ever made. Of course, you may know that Gilbert had an older sister, as well as Larry Mondello. I even think that Richard had a sister too.

I really don't know the other sister's names off the top of my head , but I know Richard's sister's name is Margaret. She is in one of Wally's classes. Wally says she is always staring at him. She gives him "the creeps!"
Richard says: "She gives me the creeps, too,.........and she's my sister." |

I haven't seen the ep in a long time, but I think it is the first in which Aunt Martha appears, where June is gone to help take care of a newborn baby. I thought the baby was said to be that of her sister, Peggy. Regardless, neither 'Peggy' nor the baby is mentioned again. Also, one wonders why Aunt Martha did not go to help with the baby, instead of filling in at the Cleaver home for June while she went; perhaps because Aunt Martha knew nothing about babies?

On the episode entitled "Eddie's Sweater", Ward mentions that he had two sisters in the final scene. He and June were sitting at the kitchen table and Ward mentioned that Beaver's girl troubles would start next year because he would be entering high school. June asked Ward if that was when his girl troubles started. Ward replied that he had experience with girls before high school because he had two sisters.

On the New Leave it to Beaver, Eddie Haskell mentions having a sister, which is REALLY odd, because you definately get the impression that he's an only child. Of course, she could have been born in 1964 or something.

During the first season of the New Leave it to Beaver (actually it was Still the Beaver at that point), Wards sister Gloria (Aunt Gloria) visits for Thanksgiving. She was played by Hugh Beaumont's real-life sister.

Hey Haskellgirl,
In which episode of NLITB did Eddie mention his sister? I don't remember that one. |

Its the 100th anniversary of Mayfield episode, the one where Kip is baby-sitting Oliver and Kelly, and he sneaks them out to the fair with Freddie to meet up with two girls, and Kelly ends up winning a boat. Earlier in the day, Eddie and Lumpy are at the fair and Eddie tells Lumpy he's going to try to win a prize because "I still owe my sister a wedding present." He COULD be referring to a sister-in-law, but he definately says "my sister". |

Ah yes, its comming back now...
That ep title is 'Dumb Luck' I believe. Very good- I didn't catch that and I just watched it about a month ago. Thanks! Personally, I like the born-after-1964 theory myself. Hmmm... that would make his sister about 21 years old at the time of that show- makes sense! I guess it would also make sense that we never see her in the (new) series- a sibling might not want anything to do with a brother like Eddie. Mark |
