Default Family Matters before Steve

Am I the only one who enjoyed Family Matters before Steve became the star of the show? I mean after season 1, the show just went downhill from there.

I didn't really like the 11 episodes before Steve came in. It was hilarius when he was just a small sidekick, but then after a year or two he became the mighty star, and the show just got too weird. Also, the other characters seemed to be getting stupider and stupider... Like the time when Carl decided that the best way of dealing with Eddie's drinking broblems was kicking him out of the house. He would have never done that if it was an episode from one of the early seasons.

Before Steve Urkel made his first appearance the show was not very good at all, and the plots were rather boring. I don't think Family Matters would have made it past the one year mark if Steve was never introduced. I remember when I was in 3rd grade during the first season of Family Matters, kids were already talking about him, and talking like him, and that was when he was just a minor charachter, and had only been in a couple of episodes. Bringing in Steve was probably the best decision the writers of that show made.

I agree the show was boring before Steve and it was a good move. What I didn't care for was all the STUPID characters that in vaded the show like Waldo and his girlfriend and for a time Eddie was headed down that path before they change up on it. Myrtle Urkel was another one I could have done without!
