Just wanted some thoughts on the addition of Della Reese at the start of the 76-77 season whether it was a good or ad idea.

I think her timing was right. As Freddie Prinze was getting sicker due to the drugs, they needed someone to come in and take some of the stress off of him. However, I'm not a big Della fan.

I think Della was good on the show...but she didn't make a difference when it came to ratings. Let's face it...the show was nothing without Jack and Freddie's chemistry. They made the show...so her appearances were nothing special...but she could be funny and I loved the way she always called Chico "baby"...an endearing term. Without Freddie Prinze...the show was nothing.. which that was proven after his death.

She was good on the show-her character sure was funny! However, as a kid watching the show, I always thought she was a mean old grouch--just like Ed! LOL! And when I watch the show now, I notice how thin and tired-looking Freddie is in that season that Della was introduced; so the third season is my least favorite.
I think her character was brought in so Ed could have someone to argue and disagree with again, because by that time, Chico and Ed had each other's respect and didn't fight as much. |

I agree with Macca. Like Karen, I think Della was added cuz Chico & Ed were getting along too well. I think she was great on there. But Chico & Ed were the show!
