Default Did the addition of Ron Carey and June Gable help or hurt the show ?

These additions were at the beginning of the 1976-77 season and just wanted to know were they on the show to the end or taken off?

Carey was on till the end, Gable didn't last long (thank God). I liked Carey, but I couldn't stand Gable's character - no offense to Gable herself or anything.

June Gable is Det. Battista, the fake Puerto Rican. Her stint in Barney Miller was short. It just didn't work out.

Det. Licori was played by Mari Gorman, who ended up playing Bruno Bender's wife for the rest of the series. She also played a housewife who decided to go solicit, only to get arrested before she did anything. I actually liked the Det. Licori character; she was shy, somewhat insecure, suspicious, but seemed to have a good heart and wanted to be part of the group. She also had a very jealous husband who checked up on her. She had more possibilities than Battista, as a cast member. The interplay between her and Wojo in the "Evaluation" episode, after she walked in the bathroom while she was there, was pretty funny and interesting.

The casting of Ron Carey helped the show, as his Officer Levitt character became an indispensable part of the series.

I personally never had a problem with Carl Levitt. Never saw any of June Gable's episodes.

After Ron Carey was added, I thought Levitt was an important part of the show.. His character was well-written and very funny.

I would liked to have seen a female officer as a semi-regular, too, but none of the characters seemed to work out.

^ It was always funny how Levitt would always suck up to Barney and the other guys. Luger always called him "Levine", as you may recall.
