The Final Episode

Just got done watching the final episode. A little confused about the end though. After Sam calls himself "the luckiest son of a bitch in the world" you see a guy outside the door and Sam tells him they're closed. I thought he was going to get robbed. Was that supposed to represent something? Who was that man?

Well, the guy at the door ensemble, i don't really know, (cut me a break, I'm 12) but Sam's one true love is the bar. I love the last episode, the talk they have really makes you love the characters.

I'm thinking maybe the guy represents the end of the series. Like it's coming to a close. I really thought Sam was going to get robbed. That's how it always starts, a mysterious figure acting like he wants to come in but told that they're closed.

Sam realizes that his one true love was in fact his whole life. The bar and his friends are what he knows and loves and for that he is the luckiest SOB. The guy in the door at the end was rumored to have been Jimmy Burrows but it wasn't. I forgot his name.

that last episode has classic parts from the entire show. the best was the timing between norm and sam at the end when norm told sam you know what i love sam says beer norm he looks at his watch and go sure and then tells sammie he loves his stool. the timing of lines like that they dont write anymore it seems. you see them once in a while a show.

He's always come back to the bar. The Cheers is his life. It's his friends, his happiness.
I kind of think of the stranger being reminiscent of the first episode. When he first met Daine, she was a stranger, who forever changed his life. But this stranger was dismissed, Sam doesn't want anything more than he has now.

Definently the best finale of any show, ever.

I'm sorry, i know im going to get stoned for saying this but I don't like the way the last episode ends. Seriously it's the one episode of Cheers that i don't like. By the way the person that knocks on the door IS James Burrows. In the interview done by 60 minutes he says that it was him who knocked on the door in the final episode. Other facts about the last episode. Sam ended the episode by walking through the back hallway that led to the pool room. In the first episode that is how he entered the first scene by walking in from the pool room. Right before he left to the pool room he adjusted an Indian picture on the wall by the Piano, that picture use to hang in Nicholas Colasanto's (Coach) room and when he died the cast moved it out there, and by him adjusting it he was honoring coach.
I don't like how Diane was treated by Norm, Cliff, Woody, and Fraiser. She did NOT leave on bad terms with them so why were they so cold to her? it didn't seem right to the characters. I think the Ideal thing was for diane to move back to boston and for her and Sam to be happy together. I mean you heard them say how empty their lives were without each other. It just did not seem right the way that her and his relationship was discarded like it was. I mean Believe it or not she was part of the Cheers family for 5 years. She was a major character. Sam and her in were the main Characters, their names were together in the credits equally. Not even Kirstie Alley (who and i want to make this clear i have nothing agaisnt her or rebecca! I in fact like the rebecca years as well as Diane years because its still Cheers) was featured with Ted Danson who in fact was the Main Character, she was featured in the Credits right after him. I think that they should have given Diane and Shelley Long more credit because she was not an enemy.

I'm sure that it wasn't Jimmy. He said so in 60 minutes right before the et came on. The guy Glen was him. I liked the finale a lot. But It felt too final for something that was supposed to go on. But it was great!

Um, yes i think so.

I think Sam sums it up perfectly when he talks to Diane in Melvils. They have nothing in common, the only thing they shared was sex. The only reason they did hook up after the diner was, like Sam said, sex. They didn't realize it until the plane ride. The show kind of spelled it out. And Norm and Cliff weren't cold to Diane! Forgive them if they didn't jump up and start a parade in her honor. And you say Frasier shouldn't have been angry? He had been brooding about it ever since she left! Look at any number of episodes, even when Diane is still there! I think some people should accept what the show insists instead of what they insist.

I think the finale was handled perfectly.

Ok first of all, I did not say that they should have had "A Parade" as u put it when she came back. I merely thought that she just was a little ill recieved when it really wasn't necessary. Diane always supported Cliff, Norm or whoever it was when they needed it. Im sorry, if i feel that maybe she did not get as much credit as she deserved. I mean fine Shelley Long DID leave the series, but she did not leave on bad terms, and even if she did leave those first 5 years that she did do where very important. Sam and Diane did not only have Sex in common, If u watch any of the early episodes they show a chemistry between them which can tell u that they did have every day things in common. I mean yes they were from different backgrounds, and educations. But that was one of the reasons why they were so great together, the fact that these two people were so different in every way but yet so the same. They had the same temper and reacted in the same way in situations concerning each other. Yes they did explain what happend in the last episode. When I do, Adieu came on she was willing to marry him but he told her that she should go and finish her novel and have her glory moment because he had already had that and then come back to him. He knew she needed that. She explains in One for the road that her novel did not sell to the publishers and that she couldn't come back to him until she was famous. That made sense. What did not make sense was that they both admitted their lives were empty without each other and that they needed each other. In the plane they realized that they both could not give up their lives for each other which was sad because they truly did love each other. After Diane left Sam went downhill, I mean he sold the bar, came back tries for 4 years to buy it back, sells his corvette or his vette(though i believe he does get it back), realizes how empty his life is and tries to have a baby with rebecca, Rebecca burns down Cheers, he rebuilds it, then the one thing that he had going was he still had the bachelor life when they make the discovery that he is a sexaholic. When they were sitting around smoking cigars i forgot who says it i think it was norm though that he lost the love of his life twice. So it was more that just good sex.
the last thing that i want to add is Fraiser's "hatred" toward Diane increased gradually during the las few years, I mean he was resentfull during the 4th season (which he had a right to be because she had just left him) and then slowly got over it, and had is relapses here and there. But strangely during the las few years every time diane was mentioned he became more bitter towards her. I don't know. Maybe, fine, in fraiser's character it was appropriate. But im sorry i think that Norm, Cliff and Woody could have had more good interaction with her. That is my opinion Tomservo99, Your entitled to yours. I simply thought that a character as important as Diane was in the first five years deserved a little bit of a better rep.

u have 2 remember that the writers (glen and les) of the finale had to take in 11 yrs of all the show's writing for the finale. its hard 2 remember every detail of every ep. tho we see it on N@N almost every night, it didnt happen this way, and no where as close to as quick as we see them today.

i've been writing a whole-season (26 ep) fanfiction for another show, and its hard for me to remember stuff just from those eps, so after about 274 eps, its hard to remember everything w/o referring back to every ep, which is time consuming.

I understand how hard it must have been for the writers to wrap the series up. I mean this is the best sitcom of all time where EVERY episode was hilarious and genius for 11 years! I really do love every episode (well again except One for the road part3). I guess if u really think about it, it's impossible for the writers to satisfy every fan with the Finale, whichever way they would have chosen to go. For me though the Final episode didn't really bring Closure. You know what I mean?
