Now, I dont smoke, but passing through CT, NY, and RI I saw the prices for a pack of Marlboro's and Parliaments for $6.50!!
OMG! How do the smokers afford that? Up here theyre only $2.79 some even only $2.30! The highest we sell them for is $3.56 and those are for like Camels, Salems, and Winstons. Cartons are only from $18-33.19. Oh meangya and to think some people buy cartons by the bundle.

Don't complain - everything is cheaper in America.
I used to be a smoker when I was a teenager and I had very little money at the time so I smoked one of the cheapest brands of cigarettes you can buy. A pack of 20 cost me almost £4 - that's the equivalent of about $8. How can you think that $3.56 is expensive fo a pack of cigarettes when I was paying over twice as much??!? |

Yeah cigarettes hve been highly taxed in NYC for a while.
That's one of the reasons I quit. Too damn expensive. Oh, and that whole cancer thing.

I quit 4 years ago when they were still only $2.25 a pack, thank God. If I still smoked today I'd need $205.00 a month or $2,460 a year. No way, man..I'm too broke for that

I went to the gas station earlier this week and the lady standing in line ahead of me bought 2 pack of cigarettes and they were over 9 dollars. I was thinking OMG. I am sooo glad I never picked up that habit. People don't realize how much money they are wasting.

I Dont smoke. Never have and never will.
How people could spend that kind of money is beyond me. You could be using that money wiser....Like buying X-Ray Glasses out of Comic Books or Land In Hawai

Cartons are the only way to buy smokes nowadays here in California. 30$ a carton for Winstons. It's about 5$ if you buy them by the pack.
I don't really complain though since I can easily afford them... It is ridiculous, though. Side rant.. If you ask me, which you didn't, alcohol (if anything) should be taxed more. It's the substance that's more likely to adversly affect someone other than the person consuming it. And don't give me that 'Second-hand smoke' crap, because cars push out way more pollution and smoke. Just living in the Valley here you breathe a pack of smokes worth of crud. You give up your gas-guzzling SUVs and then we'll talk about me quitting smoking. Sound reasonable? I didn't think so, and that is exactly the point. You've kicked us out of restaraunts. You've kicked us out of bars. What else do you want? *By 'you' I mean all the anti-smokers who'd like to force their ways upon everyone else, and am not necessarily referring to You. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go have a smoke. I know they're bad for me. I know they're a waste of money. I just don't care.

![]() Actually, I don't mind the ban of smoking in restaraunts and stores. That is completely understandable. But bars? Come on. It's not like the patrons of bars are exactly the most health-conscience people. It's a BAR! Booze and smoking go together like....two things that go together well. The only indoor legal place to smoke is inside a tobacco shop (hehe) and inside privately owned businesses. Read as: No outside employees. There's one pool hall in the area that allows smoking. Let me tell you, that place gets my business *strictly* because it allows smoking. Heh, it's not like I go to pool halls for the 'friendly family atmosphere.' I go to smoke and swear while hustling poor naive young men out of their hard-earned money. It really should be up to the business anyway, family-run or not, but I digress. By the way: Love the avatar, AKA. Oh, and you've got great taste in movies. (Just checked out the DVD list. )

I don't smoke, I don't PLAN to smoke, but I don't have NEthing against ppl who do. Ewan smokes and sure...I wish he didn't b/c of that whole cancer thing, but it's his choice.
Lots of the restaurants here have a smoking and non-smoking section. I PREFER the non-smoking section, but I don't mind the smoking section if I haveta sit there. |

Hmm.. I sorta agree that we should keep smoking out of resturaunts. If you are going to Chez Maurice (or some other fancy resturant that doesn't print prices on the menu or whatever) then it's a nice resturant, and you just shouldn't smoke. However, if it's the local diner, I say smoke all you want. I think the business should take into consideration who its main customers are and the atmosphere of the place. Smoking in bars should definitly be allowed though. I agree with Krystal Lake -- drinking and smoking go together like Peanut Butter and Jelly.
