WINGS is one of those unusual sitcom series....a show which was considered to be a "no big deal" also-ran when it first ran (although it was around for 8 seasons), but has been regarded and respected as a true CLASSIC series in reruns.
There could be a good reason for this....The characters on WINGS , for all of their strange quirks and character flaws, are basically pleasant people who don't come on TOO strong. This is very important once a show goes into syndication and is shown on a daily "strip" basis. That's the main reason why TV station managers said that "Murphy Brown" didn't do all that great in syndicated reruns....Candice Bergen's "Murphy" character just came on too strong, and viewers couldn't stand getting hammered like that 5 days a week. However, most of the time watching WINGS is a pleasant experience, and the cast members seem like old friends. I think that WINGS has reached, or is quickly reaching, "legendary" status as a popular rerun series, and will take its place along with "I Love Lucy" and "The Honeymooners" as a show which viewers can enjoy over and over again. As I've mentioned before, I'm a late bloomer to this show, having discovered it only recently in reruns....but it's become a great favorite of mine, and it's nice to see that it still has a large and loyal following....perhaps even larger and more loyal than when it was first run! |

I love watching the Wings reruns over and over again. It may not have been the award-winning, critically-acclaimed series like Friends, Seinfeld, Mad About You, and some of NBC's other big mega-hits, but I'll still take Wings over those shows any day. The characters seemed like real human beings, which is one of the things I really like about the show.

Although I had seen episodes here and there in the original run, I got hooked on the show in the Summer of 2000 on USA. To me, "Wings" is a classic show and I'm glad that Nick at Nite has the good taste to call it a "Modern Classic".
Another show I love, "NewsRadio" was low-rated in it's five seasons on NBC. However, alot of the fans have said they didn't start watching it until after the show ended and went into reruns. |

I love NewsRadio too. It was also very under-rated. I watched both during their origional runs.
I hope both get released on VHS or DVD soon
