Here is a photo of Dawn Wells at an autograph show last Saturday (Apr. 5). I also posted a photo of Dawn from a scene of "Gilligan's Island" (the episode "Beauty is as Beauty Does") to compare.
I got a few autographs from Dawn and gave her some G.I.-related things. Pics I took of the show off the T.V., a copy of page of a 1966 T.V. Listings, from a local newspaper (the episode "Ghost A Go-Go" was the episode that week, March 20-26). It was really fun to finally meet and talk to Dawn. Luckily, there was no long line to wait in- but I went to this show in the afternoon because in the mornings, there is always a crowd. I also gave her some threads from this message board. I'll post the whole list when I organize which threads I printed. Two of the 5 or so were, "Who was prettier?" and I think the other one was, "Ginger or Mary Ann- which one." (Something like that.) |

Dawn still looks beautiful--she doesn't look like she could possibly be 64 (but she is--she was born in October, 1938). Tina Louise, by comparison, looks every bit of her age--she's only about 4 years older than Dawn, and she looks about 20 years older. I can't help but wonder if Dawn's wonderful attitude toward life and her acceptance of her typecasting as Mary Ann versus Tina's bitterness has caused this difference.
I'll bet it was cool to meet her--how great that you got to talk to her for a while and give her some things. I met Bob Denver back in 1995 at a book-signing, but I only got to speak to him for a couple of minutes. There was a long line. He was very friendly and pleasant, though. |

I haven't thought of that- Dawn's positive attitude and Tina's negative attitude regarding their characters and typecasting. Could be.
You're right, I believe Tina was born in 1934. Lucky you got to meet Bob. Maybe I will someday; I've already met Russell. Very fun to talk to him, too. |

Yeah, while I was waiting for an autograph, I heard several people say to her, "You look the same," or "You haven't changed." To which she would reply, "Thank you."

Of course, I wasn't about to meet Dawn without posing for a picture with her. So, here it is...

Dawn Wells really is the castaway who has aged the best, for sure!
Thanks for posting those pics Fleet! I'm so jealous of all you guys who've been fortunate enough to meet those actors. I've never met anyone famous.

Well, I just have to add this--please don't think I'm showing off--that's not my intention. We just moved to this area, and I'm still kinda amazed by the situation myself.
We live near Nashville. I've seen Ricky Skaggs in McDonald's and Lorrie Morgan in Food Lion (I think it was her anyway). The thing is though, they're just part of the community down here, so no one really approaches them (not that I've seen anyway). So I didn't talk to them, I just kept looking at them, wondering if it was really them. One of the Oak Ridge Boys lives just down the road from me. And Johnny Cash lives within 3 miles of me. I've never seen either one of them, just their houses. It's cool. |

Yeah, there are a lot of famous people in the Nashville area. It is fun to live near them, even if you don't see them.
