Sad When John Lennon died....

I remember when John Lennon died. I was so sad when I heard that Marc David Chapman killed him.

John was such a genius. I put him up there with Mozart, Beethoven and Bach..... Same with McCartney.

After he died...... I prayed so much for John's soul. I miss him so much...

Luckily we have his legacy and his music.

December 8, 1980 - I was five months old, so I obviously don't remember that horrible day. In honor of John, I try to refrain from using his killer's name.

I wasn't alive when he was shot, I was born in May of 1981, but he and his music are a legacy and will live on forever.

I wasn't born yet. I was born in 1985. But, I love his songs Imagine and Give Peace A Chance. It's a shame he had to be assassinated. I keep thinking of the war going on in Iraq and what kind of song he would sing about it.

This is how many people found out about John Lennon's death that night. Against his producers' wishes, Howard Cosell interrupted his commentary of the Monday Night Football game that was going on to announce the tragedy.

"Yes, we have to say it. Remember, this is just a football game, no matter who wins or loses. An unspeakable tragedy, confirmed to us by ABC News in New York City. John Lennon, outside of his apartment building on the west side of New York City, the most famous, perhaps of all of the Beatles, shot twice in the back, rushed to Roosevelt Hospital, dead... on... arrival."

That was before I was born, but I can imagine the shock the rest of the world felt when they heard that.

Thanks Penny........ And Thanks to AKA for the comment on the Howard Cossell interruption. I didn't know that.

John was such a great soul.........

Before I forget............... At the time John died millions of people prayed for his soul at an appointed hour. I remembered it well. It was very spiratual........ I was one of those people who prayed for him. I wonder if anyone here did that too? Of course it has to be someone older who was there at the time and remembers.

Sad re: John Lennon

I remember that day, Dec. 8, 1980: I had gotten back from a Bible study and my younger brother told me that John Lennon had been shot and killed. I can't believe my first reaction was smugness... It was because I, as a "new Christian", was taught to regard those of us who weren't as "spiritual and saved" as us as beneath us, especially considering his comments
about Jesus some years back ("we're more popular than Jesus"--which he later explained, it was rather IRONIC that the Beatles were considered more popular than the most important religious figure in history), but later, I found how so many people were upset. I later went to a party that next weekend where I was exposed to such great Beatles music. I then felt bad that I didn't initially feel such regret over the loss of such a great musician and songwriter. His assassin used the same kind of religious arrogance to justify his actions, and for that reason, I have had to change my attitudes big time.

I admit, I was going on with the churchy crowd a bit too much then. Some of my friends were upset that I went to a party featuring such "evil music."
