Question Question about Clifford Sherwood story

Most of you probably remember the story that took place in Canada where the elderly lady was looking for her son that disappeared when he was just a boy and his name was Clifford Sherwood. She assumed that the boys father took him and it seems a good possibility but what always perplexed me was they say at the beginning of the story that he disappeared while on the way to school and his friend disappeared with him! They never mention the other boy that disappeared with him anymore in the story. It doesn't seem likely that the father would kidnap the boy's friend too. Has anyone heard anymore about this case or have any further insights about this mystery friend who also disappeared that is never mentioned again?

I've wondered about that too. The other boys name was George. If I remember the story right, a body was found shortly after Cliffords disappearance but his mom said it was not her son. I believe the clothes that were on the body didn't match what her son was wearing. It made me think that maybe that body they found was Cliffords friend George. It is strange that they never mentioned whether or not the body was positively identified of if they ever found out what happened to the friend. As far as I know there are no updates on this case. It seems to me that if Clifford was still alive he would have made some effort to find his mom after the dad died.

Yeah, and why didn't we hear anything about the OTHER boy's family? Didn't THEY wonder what had happened to their son? I remember them saying that BOTH boys had disappeared!
I think that they found a the bottom part of a boy's torso but Mrs. Sherwood refused to even look at it saying it could NOT be Clifford. In any case, I hope Mrs. Sherwood finds out what DID happen to Clifford- and if he's still alive, he WILL contact her. It's hard for me to believe that after all the publicity this case has had for decades he wouldn't have made some effort if he were able to!

Default Clifford Sherwood link

I found a link to a missing persons profile of Clifford Sherwood:

http://www.gomcs.org/canada/0051-cdn.htm

From way the profile is, it is evident that Sherwood remains missing to this day.

I am sure this kid/guy is probably deceased by now. I saw this story originally, and it has been almost 50 years. His mother may even be dead now..

Of course It pains me to say this, but it is almost fruitless in this circumstance, after 49 years, to remain optimistic.

I watched this case tonight for the first time in a long while. I have it on tape and distinctly saw the newspaper clippings about Clifford's disappearance. The title of the article contained the phrase 'missing boyS' (plural). Another clipping showed two pictures, each of the missing children. Why UM did not shed any spotlight on George's case is beyond me. Maybe they wanted to slant the story so that it could look more like Clifford's father had abducted him, but maybe that would be hard to do if viewers knew the other boy had vanished, too. Because like Crystaldawn said, why would the father kidnap the other boy, too? Maybe Clifford's mom and sis wouldn't have participated unless Clifford was solely focused on, who knows.

Clifford's father may have not been a nice person but to me the more likely scenario is that the two boys encountered some kind of foul play as they cut class. I feel so bad for the Sherwood family because they all suffered so much (broken up, foster care, etc).

If Clifford and his friend are still alive they might be suffering from Stolkholm(sp) syndrome. That's a long shot, though.

Default Missing George

Probably George was found alive or dead short after, thats why he didnt get any focus.

Anybody remember the picture of Clifford from the case? It was an older picture of Clifford taken (I believe) with his father. Clifford looked a few years older. I was just wondering why anybody didn't mention the picture. Does it have any bearing, do you think? Or did they prove the photograph was not relevant?

You're 100% right, the picture that UM showed of Clifford with his dad is definitely an older one of him, at least by a year. I was going to add that last night but overlooked it. Could Clifford's father have killed George in order to take his son without witnesses? Or did he kidnap George, too, and give him to a parentless couple or something? Those possibilities make the case much more sinister, and for me it's hard to decide on any one theory.

I was looking for that last picture of an older Clifford on the web but can't find it. If I do I'll place it in the age progression thread so everyone can see there's a definite difference between the one that was taken the year he vanished.

Could it be the reason so little was said about the other missing boy was because the boy's family did not want to cooperate? I know that sounds odd. You'd think the family would want as much publicity as possible to try and solve the case. But maybe for whatever reason, they did not want it drudged up again after all these years. I remember a similar situation on UM several years ago. Two young boys were trapped in an old concrete building they had been using as a fort and the building was set on fire. Police determined the fire had been deliberately set and the door to the building had been locked so the boys had no way to escape. The UM segment mentioned both boys but only focused on one of them and only interviewed his family members. At the time that it first aired, I thought perhaps the other parents simply did not want to be involved with the show and refused to be interviewed. Again, this is an old segment and it has been years since I've seen it but maybe some of you also remember it.

Good point. I was also thinking that it depends on who the subject of the story is. Clifford Sherwood was the subject of the above mentioned case, not his friend. But we know UM well, and I don't think they would have left information out unless they were asked. I can't believe they would mention that Clifford and his friend both vanished, and then not update on it...not even so much as a "he was never found". I find it very strange.
