The editors of TV Land have struck again and deleted out one of the greatest scenes in "Lucy" history.

This is the episode where Little Ricky starts playing the drum. He drums to the beat of "Ta Ta Ta-Ta-Ta". The beat starts to affect everyone in the cast.

Lucy starts making breakfast to the beat.
Ricky yells at Fred and Ethel and says "Out Out Out-Out-Out".

However they deleted a great scene with Fred and Ethel. Fred and Ethel were getting tired of Little Ricky's drumming. Fred decides to put earplugs in his ears. As the drumming continues, Ethel tries to get Fred's Attention.

Ethel goes "Fred Fred Fred-Fred-Fred".

Why was that scene deleted? Don't the editors at TVLand have any concept or clue for classic TV?

hey i remember that scene, you know they cut the scenes so tvland can have more time for their commercials advertising how brilliant tvland is.

It's not just TV Land, it's everyone. How much money do you think they make on classic TV reruns as compared to CBS, ABC, etc.? Not much, so they make it up on advertising. That often means that shows that ran longer in the 50s and 60s get the scissor treatment to fit in revenue. If they didn't get that money, you'd have no network to watch. It's not a matter of brilliance, it's a matter of business. We can bitch all we want, but it won't go away.

Oh well...at least TV Land is sticking with the original animated openings from the 50 greatest episodes marathon! From what I have noticed, the cuts have been minor (if at all) compared to Nick at Nite. I was watching the epiosde on the marathon today where Lucy and Fred are on the Staton Island Ferry and she gets seasick, there were lines/scenes in there that I know where cut from the Nick at Nite version....I agree though, classic tv should not be cut. All the scenes are important!

An good alternative would be to air uncut/unedited eps. and retain their needed commercial time. In other words, use 40 min blocks per episode. You would see fewer eps. per nite or during the fandemoniums, but wouldn't it be worth it to see the whole episode as was intended? The BBC channel does this for their Britcoms.

A VERY good idea D&R! I have heard that TV Stations in Canada also show classic sitcoms uncut in most if not all cases. Canadians are very particulary fussy about editing of sitcomes and see editing as a form of censorship! (Rightly so!) Now, someone has to get that message accros to Nick at Night and TV Land!

all i have to say is it all about the money. you see back than the shows were a WHOLE half hour (includeing few commercials). Today they want to fit all the commercials in as they can. thats why all the TV shows now are only 26 mins instead of 30 mins so they have time to fit commercials in between shows. but because back than they were 30 mins. So they have to cut it down so the bastards

can make more money!
