Ok...it's a long story but I have to get it off my chest. The story starts like this...I sprain my ankle ALL the time right? All I have to do is step the wrong way and I can't walk for days...Well anyway, I have a bad ankle and stuff, so 3 days ago I sprained my ankle...again...and went to the doctor yesterday. Well, they took x-rays and found out the reason I always sprain it. Apparently the bone at the bottom of your foot, i don't remember what it is, but it's basically your heel or something. I don't know but anyway it apparently is crooked or something I really don't know how to explain it. Well anywho, the Dr. told me, well my mom actually, that the only way to fix it is to do surgery!!!
I do NOT want to have surgery, and especially this kind of surgery when I found out what it is...Apparently this "defect" in my foot caused me to be severely flat footed and it's been going on so long it has now started to mess up my knee. Well, if I don't have the surgery my knee will be permanently damaged. So...I have to have this surgery called a "Calcanial Slide" or something...It's so horrendous sounding to me! They have to literally saw the bone in half and slide it over to where its straight!!!!!!!!! OMG! Then I have to stay overnight i the hospital with a morphine pump because the pain is out of this world! I'm so scared! He wanted to do it as soon as possible, but he said it would be alright if I waited until this summer (probably mid may, classes end May 2). So now I have to have surgery and I am terrified. I had surgery before on my spinal cord of all things but I was only 8 so I don't remember much of it. But yeah I'll be in a stinkin' cast for 8 weeks. I know this has NOTHING to do with LITB, but I had to tell someone! Thanks for listening.

Oh Brittany,
I'm so sorry to hear about the problem you are having and about the surgery you face. I will be praying for you too. I have a good friend who is an orthopedic nurse. I will see what I can find out about the surgery for you and e-mail you. Maybe it won't be as bad as the doctor says. Everyone is different. I once was frightened because I had to have a procedure that more than one of my friends said was the most painful thing they had ever experienced. To me it hurt a little, but it was not all that bad. Maybe it will be the same for you in terms of post-op pain. I certainly hope so. |

I'm sorry to hear about the surgery. I'll pray for you. Is this going to be your first time having surgery? It sure sounds like it is. I've never had any surgeries before and if I ever do I'll be really scared. Just hang in there and be strong!!

Goodness Gracious, how dreadful to have to anticipate a surgery like that for the next month! Bone surgery is a real toughy, but I bet since you pulled through the spinal cord surgery so well, you'll do terrific with this one. And at the very least you can think about how you'll be all fixed up afterward and hopefully will have no more injuries to that foot. But for the time being, thinking about the surgery is real hard. I've only had surgery once before, and for me, waiting for the surgery was right up there in the awful department with having the surgery itself.
I agree with maranatha, it may just be different for you than what your doc says. And thank heavens for pain killers to at least take the edge off the pain. I don't know if you're glad the doc gave it to you straight, but I kinda think it was kind of a "dirty trick" for him to WARN you about the pain. I mean, that's a given after surgery, but having that be the first thing that comes out of his mouth just makes it more scary! At least that's how I'd feel. But I bet you'll do great. I've never had bone surgery, but my mother has had a million on her knee/ankle (including 3 total knee replacements on her knees) and the pain medication really eases it. And your doc better give you a good supply for quite a while so you won't have to suffer!

Thanks you guys for the responses. I feel alot better about it now. Plus my mom was thinking last night, she does Vacation Bible school at our church and she said that she would rather me have the surgery after that. (around July!) She's going to see if that will be ok today. I told her not to worry about it, but she said that she wanted to be here all the time to help me out and stuff. I told her I'd be fine, but she said she'd just rather it be later so she wouldn't have anything else to worry about and she could "Just take care of me". I thought that was nice. But yeah I find out today if the surgery is later. I don't know. I almost wish I could just get it over with, but oh well!
