Cool re: Genesis

You know, as a big prog rock fan, I haven't even really heard much of the stuff Peter Gabriel did with them back in the 70's, but I know that he was very good and theatrical. Phil Collins was just the drummer who got drafted to the lead vocalist. Then they got poppy. Good, but poppy.

You know, up to and including Abacab (and some of the self titled album) I really liked all the work Phil Collins did with Genesis.

The Peter Gabriel years were just a little too experimental off the wall theatrical for me. I'm sure a lot of it is good music, but it is not the kind of stuff I enjoy. I think the same can be said of a lot of early Yes (when they went off on their tangent) and King Crimson.

I think Gabriel's solo work proved the right venue for him and a lot of it is fantastic.
Not a big fan of anything after "So" or even that album for that matter.

Phil Collins he was my favorite singer in the group. I did like Peter Gabrial but Phil is one of my favorite singers I love his solo act he just has a very good singing style I think.

Peter hands down. Phil: great drummer, but he totally ruined the experimental side of the band.

(this has been a debate among Genesis/prog rock fans for years)

True. Case in point: Solo song "You Can't Hurry Love."

With the exception of "Face Value," almost all of Phil Collins' solo stuff has been shite.

I like the stuff Phil Collins did with Genesis, but nothing Peter Gabriel did with them. I like a lot of Gabriel's solo stuff though.

for everyone who bashes Phil, check out Abacab and Face Value. Once he was capable of good music. And Invisible Touch/No Jacket Required wasn't really that bad when you look back at it.
