The subject of this post is a song sung by 'Archie' and 'Edith' from their (only) album together called 'Side By Side: An Evening of Songs and Fun With the Bunkers.' This album came out in 1973. Anyway, the majority of the songs on there are from the 20's through the 40's. They do sing the Beatles song 'When I'm Sixty-Four.' But the most 'modern' song they sing is 'Oh Babe, What Would You Say' (originally, I think) by Hurricane Smith. That song (by Hurricane Smith) also came out in 1973. What I'm wondering is, was that originally an older song? It doesn't sound like a song that was written in 1973. I'll give another example--Mama Cass's 'Dream A Little Dream of Me.' That came out in 1974, I believe. The same goes for that song, it doesn't sound like one that was written in 1974. When did both these songs come out? I'm just wondering....
Oh, here's another tidbit of information--according to a promo ad I have from 1973 that advertises this album, it says that Archie and Edith's version of 'Oh Babe, What Would You Say?' was released as a single. I wonder how well that did on the charts and I wonder how well Hurricane Smith's version did on the charts too. I first heard Archie and Edith's version and thought that they had written it, but later found out, it was done by Hurricane Smith (unless it was him who did the cover???) ![]() -Kristi |

Dream A Little Dream Of Me came out in 1968 by Mama Cass Eliott. The song, "Oh Babe, What Would You Say",you are right on,it came out in 1973. That sounds like an older song to me. The title sounds like it came from the 1920's or 30's.

1968??? Wow...I was a few years off with 'Dream A Little Dream of Me.' I guess I thought it came out in 1974 because that's the year Mama Cass Elliot died. I thought that was her last song that she recorded before she died. Hmm, I guess it wasn't. Yep, 'Oh Babe, What Would You Say' really does sound like (the title and the song) something that came out in the 20s and 30s.
Thanks for your reply.-Kristi |
