Default Denise

I had originally started this on the "Denise has no best friends post" but then I was starting to write too much, so I'd figure I'd make a new thread. It sucks though, because I don't know if there is anywhere this topic can go. Here it is anyways:

What was the deal with Denise's character anyways? Maybe this lack of friends had something to do with the fact that they didn't know what to do with her character. I'm sure I'm on my own on this, since I've never heard anyone else talk about it, but I feel they were goofying around. Yeah I know, realistically people can change, but I always found her change to be weird. The first season she has all "high fashion" (Well, high fashion for the 80s... lol, don't think I'm dissing it, but she would dress pretty out there, but I think for the most part it was considered cool.), she actually had normal 1984 hair, ate normally, blah blah blah. Then she gets a little goofy the next season. Sondra even comments on it. "Pretty soon everyone [at Hillman] will start dressing weird and changing their hair style everyday." Then she's all not into school, get's flaky, get's organic food, horrid hair, talks differently. It's a complete 180 from what we see in season 1 and a little in season 2.

Whatever, sorry for boring everyone. I'm sure most feel differently. I just never knew anyone to tranform as much as Denise seemed too. Of course it's TV. It's just annoying. Dozens of storylines were available for the Newer-Flake-Denise, but I liked the first season 1 better.

Not true about friends. She had an abundance of friends. She was always on the phone with one and some did come over to the house. Mostly, her friends were off screen. It was not a major focal point in the show, though.

I meant lack of a best friend, not lack of friends. Solomon started a thread about how Denise was the only child of the house without a best friend--some character that would reappear like Venessa's, Rudy's, and Theo's best friends. I thought it was weird because friends of Denise would be on only an episode and then disappear. When you mention "not a major focal point" that says what I think about the Denise issue. They would focus on the other best friends from time to time, and never Denise and a best friend of hers. They [the writers] screwed around with Denise. I feel this way because they developed the other characters one way and would show their relationships with friends, and with Denise, they just made it different.

(Thanks for pointing out the second paragraph of my quote--I should have put "Maybe this lack of a best friend" instead of "lack of friends." She did seem to have ton. )
