Default Am I the only one who thinks Whitley and Dwayne were funnier in season 1

Watching the first season on Oxygen. The following thought occured to me, Am I the only one who feels that Dwayne and Whitley were funnier in season 1 as supporting characters? I am not saying they are not funny in seasons 2-6, but I think they were funnier in season 1.

I also agree. I liked them better as supporting characters than lead characters. But I like the whole first season better than the rest of the show in general.

Sorry I disagree, I thought the whole first season was boring. Dwayne and Whitley were so much better as lead players, far superior to Denise as a leading player, she was better as a supporting player on The Cosby Show. I loved how they developed Dwayne and Whitley in the later seasons. In the first season Whitley was just the stuck up antagonist to Denise, at least in later seasons they made her a more likeable even though she still had the stuck up qualities. To end this rant, I didn't like how everyone had to revolve around Denise in the first season, even though that was the whole point. I loved how they revamped the show after she left and made it more realistic and identifiable.

That what this form is for. Agreeing and disagreeing.

One thing I think we can all agree on, is that in the first season they used popular music (some 80's, some oldies) in the background of some scences and they should not have stopped doing that.

I hope this does not sound blassemis. But I think season one of a A Different World is better the season four of the Cosby show.

I liked season one. It had it's downfalls but there were good episodes like when Maggie had to square off against Whitley in a debate. I like the music that played in the backround at the pit and I thought Marisa Tomei was great in this episode. Lisa Bonet's character could have worked had she committed herself more to the role IMO. I really wanted to see her come back to the show. She was 19, Bill gave her her own show, she showed up late, I think she would have had her show had she totally committed herself. She should not have gotten married and then pregnant at that particular time. When you are a star of a show, you will be required to make sacrifices and Lisa did not do that. She could have made it work, man I WISHED she would have made it work. I missed not seeing Denise. Season One is refreshing to see from the other seasons because I was starting to get a little annoyed with the later years.

Yeah, I saw the Cosby show E True Hollywood Story. Couple of thoghts from it. I thought that Bill had the wrong idea about Lenny Kravetz. He thought just because he was a rockstar he was some lunic like Ozzy Osborne or Tommy Lee. But he is a good guy, someone I am sure Cosby could get along with.

And why did Cosby hire Lisa's friend Cree Summer to join cast of a A Different World. After hearing all the problems he had with Lisa, you would think he wants nothing to do with her friends.

Also, Lisa, Cree, and Lenny all children from interratial couples.

They probably were not friends back then, but also think about this, you can't just discrminate against someone because of who they are friends with. I have a feeling that Robi Reed did the casting along with Debbie Allen for season two.

I liked Dwayne & Whiltey much better as leading characters than supporting characters, and don't care for season one very much. I'm not a very big fan of Denise, I find her to be rather boring. Although I started watching the show in season 2, so maybe my views are biased because of that, I don't know.

You are absolutely right. I argue with my older sister about this all the time. Whitley was hilarious in season one as was Dwayne! I hated when they dumped her sidekick Marie Alyce Recasner (Millie). She was great as well.

I agree with this. What I really liked about ADW was the growth of all the characters. The Whitley of seasons 5 and 6 was different than the Whitley of season 1. I appreciated how the writers allowed her character to grow. Imagine the show lasting six seasons and Whitley would continue to be that same stuck up Southern belle she was in the first season. The change and addition of other characters made me not miss Lisa (Denise) Bonet so much. I liked her too so I'm not knocking her. But all the topical issues they touched on in later seasons and the Whitley/Dwayne off again/on again romance made those later seasons enjoyable for me.
