Default rewriting history

Ok, I need help! For English I need to "go back in time", and change what happened in history for the better. Ex: Stop Lincoln's assination. So I have to change what happened to one person, or what they did, for the better. So I really, really, really need some ideas! I can't use the Ex I gave, Hitler, or anything related to 9/11. ANyway, Thank you SOO much if you can help!

I'd go back in history to the night Saddam Hussein's parents were about to conceive him and have them reconsider their decision. Then, we wouldn't be at war now.

Lightbulb re: Quantum Leap scenarios

My ideas would be:

1. Changing the course of Allied occupation at the end of World War so the Soviet Union would not have turned Eastern European countries into satellites;
2. This may have been ruled out, but--putting Adolf Schickelgruber in art school in Vienna;
3. Keeping Randy Rhoads from getting on that plane flown by a pilot who was under the influence of drugs.

What is it we can't include? Could you be a little more specific?

Well, you could stop the assassination of JFK by having him not go to Dallas, or not being in a convertable car, or by not having a change in route for the auto procession, or by not having the cars going at such an unusually slow speed.

You could stop the assassination of MLK, Jr. by having him not going out onto that landing.

You could stop the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger by having the information about faulty O-rings being taken seriously.

mmmmm... I'm out of ideas. It's late.

for something different you could have the Indians win in the west or change the way the first atomic test came out and then we could have no nukes, let the British win the revolutionary war
Go way back and eliminate religion which seems to be the cause of most wars. Just some ideas for you to consider

That's a good one actually!

So this is like a quantum leap type paper?

Interesting...I was first thinking, oh really? But then I felt, you had a point there. There is on one hand, the need in every person who has ever lived to connect with that higher power which we call God, or spirituality, or Ultimate Reality, or whatever, and many people may more or less believe in or not, and at least those of us who don't subscribe to that belief respect those of who do. But on the other hand, there are those of us who have taken religion so seriously to such extremes as to persecute and exterminate those who don't believe the way the "majority" do. The post-9/11 backlash against Muslims and Sikhs is a good example. World War II began because Hitler and Nazi Germany believed that not only did
Germans have a superior culture, but they had a superior religion
(Protestantism, whose founder Martin Luther's anti-Semitic views
influenced many to persecute and discriminate Jewish people for centuries)--even though Hitler and many Germans were Catholic.
Hitler decreed that anyone in Nazi Germany could be part of the official state church as long as they did not say anything critical of the Nazi regime. Theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer founded what was known as "the Confessing Church" which opposed Nazism, and consequently was sent to a concentration camp being involved in a plot to assassinate Hitler, and was hanged weeks before the Allied troops liberated the camp.

Interesting question: Is assassinating a bloodthirsty dictator very Christian?

Why couldn't you use Hitler? Unless I'm mistaken wasn't his mother thinking of having an abortion before he was born? You could use that, couldn't you?

could have had the Treaty of Versailles after WWI be less harsh on Germany so maybe WWII wouldn't have happened

Have the lookouts on Titanic have binoculars so they could have seen the iceburg earlier or not have the ship go so fast through the icy waters

How about Amelia Earhart? You could say that she was lost but then was found. Maybe she was on an Island for six months. Or maybe after several days she was found floating in the ocean nearly dead. That would be dramatic, and she'd still be the female pilot heroin that she is. It would just be a better ending to the story. And she could go on to do other great things!

How about stopping Adam and Eve from biting the forbidden fruit. Then nothing bad would have ever happened and that would have avoided assasinations, any and all warfare, slavery, Religious confusion, racism, wearing clothes (lol), and everything else under the sun that is negative.

But without negative stuff, how would you know what good was?
In screenwriting, the thing that moves a story along is CONFLICT.
Also, if Adam and Eve didn't eat the Poisoned Plush Pippins, then Jesus wouldn't have come along to die for our sins.

If God told you not to do something, then you would know it was bad.

Conflict is great for moving the story along, I agree.

If Adam and Eve would not have eaten from the apple, then Jesus would not have had to come and die for our sins because sin wouldn't have separated us from God and we would'nt need a sinless man to take all our sins on him when no sin would have been commited in the first place.
