Poll: Fonzie Joining or Dissing the Flower Children? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I know the series was supposed to end c. 1966 but would anyone like to hypothesize how, a few years later, the Fonz would have dealt with flower children and hippies? Do you think he wouldda been revolted by their garb ,considered a 'square' by them and joined Mr. C etc in dumping on 'em in keeping with his efforts to keep his hardearned status as a community pillar intact OR would he have turned Arnold's into a health food store, grown his hair long and exchanged the motorcycle boots for sandals and joined them?

I think he wouldve handled it the same way in the episode where folk music was so popular.. he hates change and wanted it to stay rock and roll forever. Who can blame him?!?

He wouldn't like their lifestyle, He would eventually give some of the music a chance. He would still love Rock and Roll.

I feel the same way. I don't like their lifesytle, but I love some of the music.

No, he wouldn't have joined them. But this got me thinking... by then would Fonzie have been considered "uncool" because he was living in the past?! *Gasp*

Yes, I agree that its most likely he'd have kept his distance (cept for some songs) but there IS that possibility that he'd be swayed over to the counter-culture via the rep of 'free love'! Still, it's interesting that he kept his same late 50's style well into the mid-60's even after he became a teacher/role model. .. yet ALWAYS had a strong following among teen girls(especially in the studio audience LOL)!

Sorry I havent written I have been very busy ..will get back soon ...but I believe Fonzie would have been neutral because all though he was rock and roll he knew the roots of music and culture. He wasnt a war monger coming from a gang. Love is peace. If his idols Marlon Brando and Elvis evolved in the world so did the Fonz. After all who really in our world is still stuck in the fifties or least the 60s after the loss of innocence? Most rockabillies or beatnicks who Fonzie knew (like Danny a friend he asked Richie in the early episodes to take care of his girlfriend) evolved with time and fashion and pop culture...and still was cool. It is limited to think the Fonz was not down wit the times. Also A rockabilly was considered having long hair and duck tail.

Maybe Fonzie would trade in his DA for long hair, but keep his leather jacket. Then he'd be kinda like the Renegade.

Of course like ''Ode to Billy Jack'' or Jack Nicholson. Fonzie was a renegade. Maybe he didn,t go all disco but he was down with the times. Remeber he even went to Hootnanny to support Joanie and Chachie. Also an answer to a question on his age today would be about late 60s. Richie and friends going on mid 64, Joanie and Chachie, Bingo, Spike 50 plus.
