If someone watched Sanford and Son when it was aired on NBC let me know because I have a few questions.

I used to watch it every friday night when I was a kid. My memory might be a little hazy, but if you have any questions I'll try to answer.

Well I am curious as to what you want to know? What were your questions about the show?

A point to be considered in both of these questions is how different things were back when Sanford and Son was on the air and now.
For example, back then, there were no DVDs, no VCRs to watch things continuously. There weren't even any cable stations to watch "specialized" programming like TV Land today. There was no 24 news, sports or weather channels, so your choices were extremely limited by today's standards. In fact, outside the affiliates (CBS, NBC, ABC) you were pretty lucky if you got four or five additional channels. (In the Detroit area, where I live you had the big three and four or five more - including PBS). So, on a Friday night after a long day/week, your only choices were to go to a movie or watch TV. To me, it didn't matter what day it was on since it was such a good show. Kinda like All in The Family - which began its run on Saturdays, I believe. Sure, its a graveyard time in today's programming, but not then. Each network wanted an "anchor" show each night to keep people watching and Sanford fit the bill on Friday nights for NBC. Likewise, there wasn't the instant attention on celebrites then like now - no Entertainment Tonight, E! etc. I didn't even know about the Redd Foxx holdout until I turned in to see Grady and even then I only thought it would be a show or two. We (the public) were pretty limited in the information we were given. Personally, since I saw him the opening credits every week, you had the assumption that he would be back but during the time I never thought that the show was "in trouble" or anything like that. It was a temporary thing, at least in my view. Hope that my ramblings help. |

Did you watch the continuation of Sanford and Son-when it was renamed Sanford Arms in 1977? Also did you watch the Grady spinoff in 1975? Both shows were short-lived. |

I didn't watch "Grady" don't really remember it. Watched the first episode of "Sanford Arms" but that was it. It was pretty awful if my memory serves.

I was a devout 9 year old fan and also a cub scout in 1973. When Cub Scouts changed their meetings to Friday night, I quit because it conflicted with Sanford and Son.
I am surprised, now that I look back. I understood the humor back then which kinda scares me. |
