Question Explanation please?

Hello, I am new to this board, and I have read a lot of the comments about the series finale of Roseanne, but I have questions still....If the whole thing was just a book the real Roseanne wrote, then why did they go into that thing at the hospital with David after his baby was born? In the finale, a voice over of Roseanne says that Darlene was really with Mark and that Becky was really with David. Does that mean that it was Becky and David that were expecting, and that the baby that was born was really Mark's so that was really Mark in hospital about to lose it? I'm guessing thats the deal, but still. David and Becky had more in common, and Darlene and Mark had more in common, so why did she think they should have been the other way around? I personally liked how Darlene was with David and so on, but I didn't get her logic for switching them. It was a very twisted ending. Very good tho. I was impressed. I just recently saw it as a rerun for the first time and was so confused. I just don't think she should have ended it with her saying it was all made up. I think they should have ended it right when they all sat down to eat the chinese food and left it at that. With the new baby, and Becky expecting, and everyone happy and Dan still alive. That would have been better.

the last episode revealed that info in the last 15 minutes of the series. Just pretend like that last 15 minutes never existed and it will make more sense

Smile Re:

so, are you saying, pretend that Roseanne never said that thing about it all being fabricated? I guess I understand the finale. She always wanted to write a book, and wanted to base it off her family, so she changed some things around from how they really were, and revealed them at the end...I guess I was just kinda bummed. Cuz the whole series was really good I thought. I thought it portrayed the typical american family, with a few little twists. I stopped watching it towards the end because I was in school, and got busy with school stuff. Then I saw the last season on TBS, and got interested again when Darlene got pregnant. I just think it would have ended better if she hadn't added that ending to it. I thought it was going really well until it showed Darlene with Mark and Becky with David, and her saying Dan had died. It was a confusing way to introduce that, but being as how the real Roseanne Barr likes to surprise people, it was an interesting end to her show. I don't know how to explain it. I guess it's kinda like how if your dad gave you a ball signed by Mickey Mantle, and you think it's really cool, and then you find out its a fake, and that you dad was the one that forged the signature. lol...that's how the show Roseanne was. It was a good show, but she messed it up at the end by saying it was all a fake. The only reason I kinda liked it was because no one watching it for the first time would ever expect that to happen. It had good shock value. So I guess I liked the shock, but didn't like the reason behind the shock if that makes sense.

You have a good point Adam. I think thats why it's hard for me to explain how I felt about how they ended the show. Cuz when you watch it, it's like, "Ah, bummer!" but at the same time, you're going, "What the?ooooohhh...okay, woulda never saw that coming!" I think the brilliance in it is thats how Roseanne is in real life. She seems to like the shock value she displays to people. So the ending was a good trademark of how Roseanne really is. I was just confused at first, because I was like, is she joking? (Since Roseanne played jokes on people in her series a lot, especially at Halloween) or is this for real?? I think you hit it right on the mark with your comment tho

Even though the finale was really weird, I'm glad they didn't do the typical happy ending. Because Roseanne wasn't a typical show.
