Hmm, kind of a hard poll. I really like both, but I'll go with Beaver Gets Spelled.

Default Difficult choice

I love both of these episodes so it was very difficult choosing which one I like best. I finally went with Beaver Gets Spelled for two main reasons:

1. The note Wally wrote to Miss Canfield

"I have whipped him, his father has whipped him. We are sorry, he is sorry ....

2. June's reaction to the card in the flowers that Mrs. Rayborn sent to Ward

"Who is Cornelia Rayborn and when did she see you off your feet."

Each of those lines makes me laugh out loud.

That note scene was awesome.

I also like both those eps, but I think I would say "Beaver Gets 'Spelled" is a little better because it introduces the show in a little more believable way than "Captain Jack" would have. Right at the premier episode we are shown Beaver's vulnerability to the bad ideas of his friends, Ward and June's concern as parents and Wally's role as Beaver's older and 'wiser' brother.

In "Captain Jack," it's hard to believe the boys (especially Wally) really thought they were going to get a grown alligator in the mail for 2 dollars, and they could keep him in the bathtub. And although this does not apply to the quality of the ep, I think that the alligator shown (which appeared to be real, at least when the human 'Captain Jack' held him) was at least a year and half old. He simply grew too much for the boys to keep him a secret from their parents. I got to hold a year-old alligator a few days ago, and that one was not as big as Cpt. Jack when we last saw him in that ep.

Both are cute, but "Captain Jack" was just a little bit better.
