TV Guide Channel will introduce a new on-air look March 31.
TV Guide is expanding its scrolling grid to include more on-screen information and video-on-demand programming. In September, TV Guide will add new "What’s On" TV highlights to the top-half of the screen, picking 10 to 15 top shows each night, plus one "editor’s pick" per hour. The highlights will be updated throughout the day. |

I haven't watched the TV Guide Channel since I got digital cable. The Adelphia program guide is great.
I remember the frustration of having to wait forever for the one channel I was looking for. I can't begin to tell you how many times I'd tune in just AFTER the channel I wanted had passed off of the screen. Urrgggggg! TV Guide Magazine: yes I still buy that. Actually I have a subscription. It's basically for the tradition of the thing, I guess. I don't really refer to it much though. I just like knowing it's there for my enjoyment should I want to read it.

Pav,
I have never ever gotten the channel you're talking about. I do know what it is. I've flipped through channels and saw it and it's a good thing rather than going to the nearby kwikie mart lol. |

That's all well and good for the TV Guide Channel. However, since we got Digital Cable we just use the Digital Program Guide, which is way better than anything that TV Guide Channel can deliver. For example, our TV Guide Channel only shows our analog stations (2-99) and brief summeries of digital PPV. (I guess it is assumed that if you don't have digital cable, you just use the TV Guide Channel.) The Digital Interactive Program Guide is worth the cost of digital cable by itself and is the only real source of program info that I use. With the Digital IPG you can:
1 Search programs by Time, Theme, or Title 2. Browse at your own speed never having to wait for stuff to scroll to the channel you want to view 3. Search for programs up to 7-days ahead and recieve detailed summeries of any program selected 4. Set reminder timers for programs that you want to watch or record 5. Order PPV movies/special events through the guide, including the ability to view I-Control Channels (I-Control gives you the ability to order free/PPV programs through your cable terminal and have VCR-like functionality over them) You can start, stop, pause, rewind, fast-forward programs without a VCR! You can view PPV movies with this feature for up to 24 hours. You can also have free access to I-control channels for an unlimited period of time. Programs change every couple of weeks. What is really cool is that you can also order premium I-Control on Demand for about $6.00-$7.00 more per month and recieve up to 150 program choices of whatever premium channels you subscibe to through I-Control. (So, let's say you miss The Sopranos on HBO, you can order premium I-Control and watch episodes of the Sopranos whenever you want) Satalite TV offers none of the I-Control features It's really cool. You have to see the digital guide to believe how great it is. You'll never go back to your TV Guide preview channel again! Jack |

We'll see what improvments are made. I went to www.tvguide.com and found nothing about "updates" to the TV Guide Channel. Where did you get this info from? If they include digital programing for all cable systems on the regular analog TV Guide Channel, it's going to take about 20 minutes to a half hour for the guide to scroll! Interesting though to see how TV Guide Channel is updating its grid options. It's a good PR move IMO to try to become more "modern" with digital cable's Interactive Program Guide (IPG) Jack |
