Newhart (1982-1990) - And I like the early years the best when Kirk was in it, before Peter Scholari's Michael joined in season three.

I don't have a favorite - I'm a huge Bob Newhart fan, and love everything he's ever done on television - "The Bob Newhart Show", "Newhart", "BoB", and "George and Leo" (even though the last two shows did not last very long).

I'm indifferent. I like both but I am not really a fan of either show.

It depends on what type of humor you prefer. Big city humor or small town humer. I prefer big city humor.

The Bob Newhart show for me. It was an hilarous shows. I especially love the episode with the group thropy group. Mr. Carlin was hilarous. My favorite episodes when Mr. Gianelli dies. The part when they have a moment of silence and Howard walks in and says "Come on let's party, you are acting like somebody died". Also the part when Bob reads the poem and says "Petterson is a trup." Funny as hell.

I like Newhart also. I agree with TVAdam, the first two seasons were the best. Favorite episode is the second episode when they find a dead body in the basement and it turned out the dead body was killed in a witch trial. (Coestently, my favorite episodes of the two Bob Newhart sitcoms involve death.) It had some funny lines. When the kid who worked at the morg said, "When I get my wheels. I am going to Europe". Then Dick says "Should be some ride." And the part when Dick says "How do we get her off the witch list." The Kirk character was a great foil, reminds of Carlin.

I am not a real fan of Newhart (1984-90), Newhart was reduced to being the straight man to the characters in the town. It became the Michael and Stephanie show half of the time, and the Larry, Darryl, and Darryl show, the other half of the time. Hello, the show is called Newhart. However, I love the last episode. Though in the last scence Bob should have said the Handy man looked like the Pepper.

I Think thats what i like about it though. Dick (Bobs Character) Was surrounded by a town of Looneys and he was always trying to make sence out of them. Than in the last episode he finally snaps right before dieing and finding out it was a dream

I know that was the premise. The Bob Newhart show had the same premise. The big difference to me, is that I felt Joanna (the Bob character's wife on Newhart) was one of the looneys. On the Bob Newhart show, Bob had Emily to get him through all of the looneys. On Newhart, the Bob character was all alone.

On the mid to latter seasons on Newhart, Dick was not the focal point, or did not play any part in the solving of the problems of what ever character(s) were the focal point that episode. Dick did not have any good lines. There were some episodes that Dick barely appeared. Through to be fair, the Bob Newhart show did the same in the last season, though Bob still played an important part in those episodes via phone. I think there are a couple of Newhart episodes when Dick does not even appear.

The Bob Newhart Show was better in my opinion. Newhart was as exciting as watching paint dry IMHO.
