Lightbulb What if......

What if it had been "Joanie loves Fonzie" instead of Chachi, would anyone of have watched the show?

I would of, although I wasn't born until 1986, but anyway, I think it would of had a more longer run if it had been this way.

Anyone got any ideas on how the show would of probably been like that.

I personally don't have any specific ideas, but it definitely would of been interesting and romantic!

An ABC executive once said basically that Fonzie could never be spun off because without him there wouldn't be a "happy days."

Like you, I am also one of the "Joanie and Fonzie" followers. But, I don't know if America would have been able to swallow such a topic. Joanie was so much younger than Fonzie, and she was like a kid sister to him. Though, Petticoat Junction did something like this when that cute airplane mechanic/pilot guy married the youngest sister (Can't you tell what an avid scholar I am of this show? *LOL*)

On the other hand, I think a spin off show starring Fonzie, Ashley, Heather, Howard, and Marion would have worked. They could have brough in Joanie, who recently married Chachi, and Jenny and Joanie could have done a whole "Lucy and Ethel" bit. Basically, just giving Happy Days a whole new facelift by recentering the plots. i wanted Fonz to marry Ashley-- help raise Heather. Howard and Marion would be grandparents. Joanie and Chachi would find new bliss in matrimony. Even Jenny would have evolved. Turn it into a family centered sitcom rather than a teen centered one. I think one mistake of the executives was to keep the show targeted toward teens. Yes, it launched off that way, but as the viewers aged and the actors aged, it should have followed to meet the interests of the older audiences who fell in love with the show in the first place. Maybe retiring Happy Days and diverting the characters into a spin off would have helped the ratings. I believe the general opinion is that Happy Days wasn't Happy Days any more without Richie and Ralph. So, a new spin off may have worked.

I agree. Chachi & Joanie were a better couple.

Honestly, no. First being the show didnlt fail b/c of Joanie & Chachi. It failed b/c it was weak period. While the idea may be more palatable today too, I definilty don;t think it would have been taken very well in the eighties. Not on a sitcom set in pretty much a modern era (as opposed to say a show set in the 1800's or ealry 1900's).
It's one of those things that I think works well as fan fiction, but if it was actually put on screen it would come off as creepy.

Default What if......

Richie, Fonzie, Ralph, Potsie, Chachi, Lori-Beth and Joanie were all teenage superheroes. (think the Justice League, the X Men or the T-Squad and you'll get the idea)
