Default Betty Garrett (Irene Lorenzo)

Does anyone remember when Betty's last appearance was on AITF before she joined the cast of Laverne & Shirley? I really liked the character and thought she had better material on AITF than L&S and wish she stayed. She could of helped fill the void in the last season and also moved over to Archie Bunker's Place. I don't think they ever gave her a proper good bye.

I'd like to see a recent pic of Betty. Whenever I see her on the show, I always wonder what she looks like now.

I think Betty's last appearance was Thanksgiving 1975 episode at the Stivics house when they moved next door. Since Vincent Gardenia (Irene's husband Frank) had left the cast over a year before it was getting harder to show Irene, thus she was written out and went on to "greatness" with L&S. Yes if she had remained with the Bunkers it would have been better and if she had been worked into ABP it would provide more continuity. But she does appear in Thomas' fan fic of Edith's death, so that is as close as we will get to see her again.

By the way, I was appalled that L&S won the TV land working class award over the Honeymooners. (Archie wouldn't qualify because he eventually went into business for himself). The TV land awards seemed to favor those who were living and could pick up their award, except in the case of I Love Lucy. But then, no one picked up the award at all. Why couldn't Lucy's kids pick up the award for I Love Lucy on behalf of their parents?

i didn't think it would be that hard to keep showing Irene since she was Edith's friend.

The issue isn't how to explain Irene's appearance, the issue is how to explain Frank's absence. The audience would find it peculiar that Irene keeps showing up without Frank.

Oh,yes,I would have liked to have known why Frank Lorenzo wasn't in any more episodes of All In The Family after the 1973-1974 season. Nothing much was explained about that either. I just wondered if Vincent Gardenia wanted to leave the show.

They could have just said Frank left her for another woman.

It was also rumored that Frank was to have been killed off, had Betty remained on the show. I am glad that this nor Archie being killed off and Edith marrying another bigot (or a black man) did not actually come to fruition.

She could of at least made a couple guest appearances in the later seasons with or without vincent gardenia(even though she was a more prominent character on L&S she wasn't on every episode) and even after edith's death on ABP where she could of helped archie with stephanie.
