Question TV Land Awards

so, what'd y'all think of the TV LAND AWARDS? (those that saw it-if you didn't, TV LAND is showing it again all this week). I thoughtit was great! John Ritter made a great host. I could have done without that dancing, though. But, everyone has aged really well. (with the exeption of James Doohan from "STAR TREK". Sadly, I wouldn't be surprised if he "beams up" to "the final frontier" soon) And that was great hearing the lyrics to "The Dick Van Dyke show" theme. I didn't even know it HAS lyrics! And I'm sure a lot of other people didn't know either.
I just wish they would have mentioned more shows, though. Like "The Beverly Hillbillies" "The Odd Couple" & "Dallas" Also, all the STAR TREK series instead of just the first one. But, despite all that, a great show!

Granny: "Lissen, how she got them diamonds is her business. I'm just sayin' ask her kin we buy one from her."

I really liked it. Seeing stars that I haven't seen in awhile and John Ritter was great. I just wished TVLand showed the whole show instead of the edited version. But it was their first one, so hopefully they will make some improvements for the next one. I give it a !

Yeah, I'm afraid that will prob. be true.

Anyway, I thought the awards were okay. I like the idea of a classic tv award show and seeing so many classic tv stars. I liked the Arnold Jackson skit. That's about it. I thought the dancers were kind of useless. I guess they were used to bring in more viewers that aren't a fan of classic tv. I could just imagine someone passing by TVL and seeing the dancers and only watched it to see the hot chicks.

I thought it started out bad and went downhill from there...

The dancers were ridiculous and unnecessary (yes, they were beautiful, but it looked like a bad Vegas show).

As soon as Rob Riener started walking up to the stage, I knew he was going to spout his anti-Bush, anti-Republican rhetoric, so I wasn't surprised about that at all (and please don't give me that "He was just playing his Meathead vs Archie" role stuff...his anti Republican and anti-Bush positions are well known and well documented)...Sally Struthers looked terrible...I had a pretty major crush on her when AITF was in it's original run...

Shirley Jones and David Cassidy...pretty pathetic performance...Shirley used to be so incredibly talented, what happened?

Maureen McCormick and Davy Jones...who cares anymore? (I love Maureen, and she still looks great, don't get me wrong, but that was just too stupid)...and I still love the BB to this day

And what was the award they gave to Laverne and Shirley? The working stiff award, or something...the one where Rossanne was nominated as well? How can you NOT give that award to Ralph Kramden, the all time, ultimate working class guy?? (Easy answer, he's dead, Marshall and Williams are alive)....in addition, I always thought Laverne and Shirley was a dumb show, even though I thought Cindy Williams was very cute

High Point of the show: I did think that Dick Van Dyke's quartet # was excellent (I also didn't realize that the DVD show had lyrics to the theme song)...apparently, DVD is the ONLY performer there who still maintains ANY kind of performance standards...the other folks were just flat out embarrassing...

I also lost a bit of respect for Barbara Eden too...she was, in my opinion, the MOST beautiful actress EVER to star in a sitcom...but that Jeannie bit...I can't believe she agreed to do that...how embarrassing for her...

Anyway, despite repeated re-runnings, I won't be watching that show anymore...

BTW, was the "FIRST ANNUAL" TV Land Awards show the first of a series, or did they just call it that? Are they going to do that again next year, maybe with different categories or something? Just curious...maybe in the future they can pay tribute to all of the really great shows that were slighted this time, like The Beverly Hillbillies, Green Acres, etc...

lol- That's what I thought too. It reminded me of a bad Vegas show. Even worse, my father was in the room with me watching the awards and I thought his eyes were gonna fly out of the sockets and land on one of the dancers.

I don't know, I have to admit that I gave Rob some points for his speech. Well, not the actual speech, but the fact that he cleverly tied it into the character and the show. Some people thought he was just doing the speech as an example to the character, but Rob wanted to say that speech. It prob. would've looked strange to get up there and start preaching. He tied it to the character and some people brushed it off as Rob being Mike, but no, it was Rob being Rob telling it as Mike. Hope that makes sense.

I thought that bit was kind of corny.

The dancers were definately unnecesary! But, they made up for it by having Davy Jones on the show! They should have showed him getting his award tho.
