Coming in May: The ABC 50th Anniversary Special - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Remember, a big ABC 50th anniversary apecial will air this May on abc--modeled after last year's highly rated NBC gala. Also, like nbc last may expect promotional tie-ins such as special guest appearances by former abc stars (such as Suzanne Sommers on 8 simple rules, etc...) as well as retrospectives for shows such as "Home Improvement."

BTW, I never cared for Home Improvement--I'm a Frasier fan.

I'm sure abc will reunite as many series casts as they can, from "Happy Days" to "Who's the Boss" to "Spin City." Nostalgia is incredibly big these days. The last Carol Burnett reunion/retrospective scopred big numbers on CBS, as well as NBC's many various retrospectives.

Also keep in mind, "Happy Days" was really ABC's first breakout, number one hit & is still their longest-running sitcom--not giving the show it's due would be a crime. Prior to 1976 they were always a distant third. Thanks to the 1976 Summer Olympics, Fred Silverman & the quasi-legal "happy hour" ordinance Happy Days & ABC really skyrocketed that season.

I just checked another board and it said that Anson Williams, Marion Ross, Don Most & Erin Moran appear on the special.

Did they already tape the 50th anniversary, or did you mean to say 40th anniversary? I was hoping the ABC thing would be live like the NBC one was with red carpet festivities & all.

P.S. Does anyone have any recent pics of the cast? Where is everyone these days? I've only seen: Ron Howard, Erin Moran, Marion Ross, Tom Bosley & Scott Baio (on VH1's "Truth Behind The Sitcoms" where he mentions his & Erin's romance, among other fun info)

ABC is celebrating the 50th Anniversary all month long in May. Starting Monday, April 28 with "ABC's 50th Anniversary Blooper Celebration Part 1" at 8-9pm E/P. "Part 2" airs Monday, May 5 at 8-9pm E/P and on Monday May 12, another blooper special titled "All ABC Bloopers" at 8-9pm E/P.

This all leads into the big 50th Anniversary Celebration, where tons of stars from ABC from the past 50 years will be on hand, airing Monday, May 19 from 8-11pm E/P .

The better question is where is Tom Bosley? Ron might be busy directing a movie or something.

Here is something to look forward to, "Happy Days" bloopers will air FOR SURE in the first blooper special. Watch all 3 in case.
