I may be getting braces in next week, so I have a few questions. By the way the type i'm getting have the plastic blocks and are removeable, and the metal wire goes round the top of some top teeth, and the bottom of some bottom teeth. So:
1- Ok, Is there any difficulty at all in talking? Is the letter S or anything at all inpronounceable? 2- Is it at all painful? 3- Is it difficult eating? 4- Is it worth it? 5- Is there anything else bad? Thanks |

1- No
2- Not while they're putting em on, but it hurts afterwards and then pretty much everytime you get em tightened. Advil will be your best friend. 3- No. 4- Probably. 5- No not really. |

No, that happens for like the first week or so when you get a retainer after the braces come off 2- Is it at all painful? It takes awhile to get used to when you first have them on and then they hurt when they get tightened but Advil works really well 3- Is it difficult eating? Only right after you get them tightened, it is a pain to eat stuff that you have to bite into. That only lasts about a day though. 4- Is it worth it? Yes, I love my new smile. My teeth were so jacked up when I first got them on. 5- Is there anything else bad? Headgears suck. You might not have to have one but I did and never wore it. |

Well, I dont have the braces yet, but I have a palate expander. Yes, it is a pain in the butt to talk, because I sound funny, and it's hard to eat, because things get stuck up there, but besides that, it's lots of fun.

What is Advil? Please tell me it's a thing to dull pain and not a figure of speech. also, Thanks for the answers, the Orthodontist told me what the whole course would invovle, the first set is temporary, the second aren't. Take about three years, no headgear. 3 years- not bad, considering some people I know have been going to the orthodontist years, then only get them In a while ago, or have had them in for almost ever. Also, what school were you in when you had them- I'll be in Junior High, then High School in September. Anyway- my fears were bigger than they should've been. Does everyone get rubber bands, someone I know got them last week and couldn't get them out. Anyway- I hope speech isn't affected, if the next school I go to isn't too trampy and does a half decent play, I wanna try get a part. Thanks anyways .

Nah, not really. At least, I didn't have any problems... 2- Is it at all painful? Not while they're putting them on you. Afterwards, yeah. It hurts to chew and your teeth are sore for a little bit...but after awhile the pain goes down. When you get them tightened it hurts a little, but not so much. And afterwards your teeth aren't nearly as sore as they are when you first get them on. 3- Is it difficult eating? Only at the beginning. It's hard to chew...you might want to stick to liquids and soft foods until your teeth are feeling better... 4- Is it worth it? Yeah, it probably will be. I got my braces off and my mom said she couldn't see a difference in my teeth at all....but then she showed my before and after pictures to a dentist or ortho I forget which lol and they said yes, there was a definite change. 5- Is there anything else bad? no, not that i can think of. |

1. No it just takes a few days to get used to metal contraptions in your mouth
2. When they tighten them or give you a new wire, yes 3. It wasn't for me, but it's a pain cause a lot of food gets stuck in them 4. Definitely. BUT WEAR YOUR RETAINERS! lol. If not, your teeth will get all screwed up all over again 5. I ate gum and all the 'forbidden foods', but watch out for licorice.... that stuff's a killer |

2- Is it at all painful? Only when they're adjusted, then they hurt like hell. 3- Is it difficult eating? Not unless they've just been adjusted (see above), but it does get kind of annoying when you're banned from eating certain foods. 4- Is it worth it? Yes. I like the way my teeth look now. 5- Is there anything else bad? If you're made to brush your teeth every time you eat, even when you're at school. This probably won't apply to you, because my ******** mother is the only parent I ever heard of who did that. |

Food get's stuck in your braces. After you get them they don't hurt. It's worth it.

1- Ok, Is there any difficulty at all in talking? Is the letter S or anything at all inpronounceable? I didn't have any kind of lisp or anything when I had my braces.
2- Is it at all painful? when he tightens them, it hurts for a couple of hours, but it goes away. it's not too much of a bother. you'll get used to it. 3- Is it difficult eating? at first it feels weird, especially with food stuck in them, but after a while you get used to them. i just used my tongue and my lip cheek to get the food out 4- Is it worth it? definetly. enjoy the braces period, because after that it's retainer time, and i hate my retainer. 5- Is there anything else bad? when they tell you NOT to have soda, listen to them. i had so much soda, i had a hole in my tooth. you have to give up eating caramel because it's too complicated to eat it, and then get it on your braces, and it takes a long while to get it off. |
