Default Jeffersons inviting the Bunkers to Dinner

Anyone else besides me think Edith was wrong for asking Archie to have dinner with the Jefersons when he already had tickets for the Mets game? I think i would still have went on to the Mets game especially since I already had a ticket. My decision to go to the game would have had nothing to do with race just the fact I paid for a ticket and someone is telling me i can't use it. Anyone Agree?

And the worst part was that Archie found out he gave up his ticket only to find out George went to the Mets game and sent his brother instead.

Yeah, she should've let him go. And it would've been funny if Archie Met (Sorry, dumb little joke there) George there and sat by him and everything but didn't know who he was; and had a fight with him just like with Henry Jefferson.

Archie wouldn't have met George at the Met game because Sherman Hemsley had not joined the show yet, at this point George was still a talked about but unseen character. The irony that George went to the game that Archie wanted to go to made for a hilarious ending.

These posts bring up a good point, Edith should not have made Archie miss the game. He already had tickets and the Jeffersons could have come over some other night. For all the times that Edith does not stand up to Archie and lets him walk all over her, this is one case where Edith actually was out of line and should have let Archie go. Of course, had Archie went to the game there would have been no point to the episode. He probably would have still gone had Mike not grabbed the tickets and said he would then go with Gloria.

I haven't seen that episode but I can tell withour blinking-- Mets game. Forget Edith. I'm going to the Mets game. That sort of thing is a pet peeve of mine anyway. Sounds like she was not considering Archie's priorities were as important to him as hers were to her. He already had plans so unless he wanted to voluntarily change them then that's all folks.

I didn't mean necessarily that what I said was to be SHOWED, I was just brainstorming.

Here's the way I see it. Edith accepted the invitation, but didn't tell Archie. Archie came home and told Edith about having the Mets tickets. Edith should've opened her mouth and told Archie to start with or asked the Jeffersons for a raincheck.

Piece of utterly useless trivia:

The day that episode was aired (April 6, 1971) ironically was the season opener for the New York Mets (the game Archie "had tickets to").

He and Meathead missed the Mets (behind HOFer Tom Seaver) defeat the Montreal Expos 4-2 on Opening Day.
