Thumbs up

Dennis the Menace is the better one by a landslide. Jay North and Gale Gordon were top-notch actors and their comedy was superd and hilarious as ever.

I don't really like either show that much but I guess I'd have to say Dennis the Menace.

And there's more! Leave it to Beaver has it all over Dennis the Menace because:

Ward and June, as well as some of the other adults, had some great lines. I enjoyed this show as a kid because I related to Wally and Beaver. Now I watch it and pick up on some of the great lines coming from the adult characters. Dennis doesn't have this.
Jay North's voice was like a rusted hinge.
Eddie Haskell, the classic rat-fink.
Wally was hot!
I also like both, but Leave It To Beaver gets my vote, here.

Leave It To Bever, by far....

Dennis the Menace was and OK show, and Mr. Wilson was a funny character (although Kearns died during the run of the show, and they replaced him with an out-of-place Gale Gordon)

LITB was better for a number of reasons however:

1) Ward and June were better characters than Dennis' parents
2) Beaver's interaction with his older brother, Wally, made for
better stories than DTM, with Dennis being an only child (can't say I blame his parents, though)
3) Biggest reason of all: Wally and Beavers friends were incredible characters...Eddie, Lumpy, Larry, Judy, Whitey (I didn't care for Richard or Gilbert very much, but E,L,L and J were great)...it don't get much better than that...Dennis' friends were very forgetable
4) Jerry Mathers was a much better child actor than Jay North was, much more natural, particularly in the early seasons of LITB...
5) LITB was still an OK show even after Beaver hit puberty, because they switched the focus to Wally during a lot of the later episodes, so Beaver didn't have to carry the load for the whole show...on the other hand, when North hit puberty, there went the whole show...

I like DTM, but it was never as good as LITB, in my opinion
