Cool HOLD UP-episode discussion

herb tarlek finally found A client to advertise on wkrp.
del murdoch who maybe less scruplous than herb.
then a comedy of errors begins.
station engineer bucky dornster breaks some of dells shoddy merchandise.
when the live remote starts the power goes out.
the only customer is an out of work dj bob boogie who holds up the store.
my favorite scene in this episode is the last scene (there were alot of good scenes in this episode)
is when the policeman (played by executive producer hugh wilson) arrests johnny fever by mistake.
it was funny to hear del murdoch who was locked in the restroom yelling for help after his store was empty.
my favorite quote from this episode.
dell"i don't know how you do these commericals so cheap"
johnny fever "you'll understand when you see the response you get"

I like when Bucky says Fine take it up with my union and Del says I don't want no trouble with unions.

I always though Hold Up was a little thrown together, and not really much to it. You can definitely tell this was an episode early on, when the show was trying to find its own identity.

So many people missing from this episode too! Venus, Bailey, and Jennifer.

There weren't so many outright jokes. The abundance of Japanese stereos must have been a criticism of stereo salesmen pushing knockoffs of the new wave of higher end foreign equipment. They outright called the stuff junk.

Herb and Del having a conversation in sales pitches tradeoffs was pretty amusing.

The mention of automated stations is a pre-curser to the Venus Rising episode.

I liked Bucky and he could have been a more frequent appearing character in my opinion (if Bill Dial would have been willing).

All in all, I don't think it represents WKRP at its best, but as the 7th episode in production it's not that bad.

Season 1 had a lot of gems, but this isn't one of them.

**Noted- at the end, with the Dragnet summation, we learn that Johnny's middle initial is "R".

dlemond-> I agree, the episode does seem a little lacking because of the lack of all the characters... but again this was early WKRP and is still good.

A few good moments: -Les' presumptious "intro",
-Carlson trying to turn up the sound on the board and deafening Les
-"Speed kills, Del."

Cool

one of my big favs!

Bucky: "I gotta stereo in my van that'll blow this whole place into the river."

Herb:" If you need anything - anything at all, I'll be in my car somewhere."
