On the T.V. Land Awards tonight, in case you weren't watching
, Dick Van Dyke was asked to sing the lyrics that Maury Amsterdam wrote for the theme music . I couldn't catch them all but here is what I got.If you think that you have trouble well trouble's, a bubble so just tell that trouble to get lost. (Don't know the second) (Don't know the third) A smile, is just a frown that's turned upside down so smile and that frown will get lost. And don't forget to keep your fingers crossed. Did anyone else get the rest and does anyone know if an original version of the theme music with the lyrics sung exists? Thanks and good night! -BombTrak

I thought that was amazing. I thought the whole awards show was done perfectly. I did not care for the dancers though, they could have disregarded them all together. But, I loved how they recognized Dick Van Dyke. I know I do not really post here, but I will try to more often ( if you guys will let me
. Rose Marie was sweet when she said that her award was for Maury. It made me get a little teary-eyed. Hope to get to know you all soon!

to the board, Shortcake! I agree about the awards. (Although, I would've liked for "Mary Tyler Moore" to win! ) Mary looked overjoyed to be there! And Carl's mentioning that reunion thing makes it all the more promising. It broke my heart to see Rose Marie needing help up the stairs. I tend to "freeze" people at a certain age when they're on a show like this, so it's a little shocking when you realize they're not that age anymore! Kristen PS-Shortcake, I love the quote in your sig!

As anyone who is familiar with live musical performances knows, lyrics can change here or there, depending on the performer(s).
I have not viewd my tape of The TV Land Awards yet, but I do have the lyrics as sung by Dick for "A Celebration Of Television Music," live, at the Hollywood Bowl, August 26, 2001. THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW THEME SONG Music by Earle Hagen Lyrics by Morey Amsterdam "So you think that you've got trouble? Well, trouble's a bubble, So tell old Mr. Trouble to get lost. Why not hold your head up high and, Stop cryin', start tryin', And don't forget to keep your fingers crossed. When you find the joy of livin' Is lovin' and givin' You'll be there when the winning dice are tossed. A smile is just a frown that's turned upside down, So smile, and that frown will defrost. And don't forget to keep your fingers crossed!" Steve |

I agree. I loved seeing the cast reunited. And I think we all miss Maury. What to do you, two Happy Days members are crossing over to the Dick Van Dyke Show board. Hi everyone!

I didn't catch the first airing of the show, but I heard the Jump The Shark guy on Howard Stern describing it as a "train wreck" so I didn't know what to expect.
When I finally saw it last night, I, too, was pleasantly surprised. There was a certain amount of kitschiness, but not as much as there could have been. And while it's true Father Time waits for no one, the majority of the honorees have held up pretty well. The best part for me, of course, was the reuinion of the DVD cast. Rose Marie cracked me up with her comment, "I was a young girl when this show started"-- meaning the TVL special. I can imagine. We only see the edited result, not the hours those patient folks have to sit through in taping. Also was a nice touch, her recognizing Morey Amsterdam's contribution. Carl Reiner seemed momentarily befuddled by the ovation he got, but did get into the spirit of the moment as his speech progressed. MTM looked great. |

A train wreck? I'm as honest as they come and I think this award show was far from a train wreck. I'll admit that John Ritter is terribly annoying and I could have done without that salute to the fictional fashion designer, but other than that, I thought it was very enjoyable.
