Does anyone think that Lucy and Desi kept a
love affair going after they divorced? I do!
Close friends and family also think they did.
I know if I was Lucy,I couldn't stop loving
someone like Desi!

I personally don't think so. I believe Desi hurt Lucy alot with his philandering and boozing. She might've loved him but, I believe she moved on and so did he.

It's funny that I read this now, because I was just reading this book called "Lucille" by Kathleen Brady that said that while Lucy was doing Wildcat in New York, Desi would call her during intermission of every performance and that they were seeing a lot of each other; they even considered getting married again. Then Lucy decided she needed to move on, met Gary Morton, and the rest is history. IMHO, if circumstances had been different, I don't think they would have gotten divorced in the first place. But then, all we can do is speculate.

From what I can gather, no....Lucy and Desi did not have a physical love affair going after the divorce.....but they obviously had an emotional one. Lucie Arnaz, and practically everyone that ever made comments on their relationship, emphasized that, despite their subsequent marriages to others, that Lucy and Desi's first loves were each other. Lucie describes (in the book, DESILU) what happened when her mother phoned Desi for the last time, just shortly before he died, and they kept saying "I love you" over and over to each other. When Lucy had visited Desi prior to this conversation, Lucie gave her parents tapes of "I Love Lucy", and they just laughed and spent time together. How wonderful that they got to spend time like that, and tell each other how they really felt, before it was too late. Not everyone can do that.....

Wow, all that is really intresting,and sweet. I never even knew the divorced, re-married, or eveN THAT dESI CHEATED ON Lucy. That sux. I always thought they were perfect.

I guess i was wrong, but i am definantely gonna check up on all this now?
Did both Desi and Lucy right their own biographies? If so, can someone tell me alittle more about them, or any other book that they would suggest i read.

Dru, I know what you mean by Lucy's and Desi's problems being hard to reconcile; the books I've read basically came to the conclusion that Lucy and Desi had such different upbringings, and that both saw life from different viewpoints, that it wasn't much of a surprise that their marriage was generally in turmoil. The thing that kept them together was their passion, and maybe in the end, that is what drove them apart. I like to think that theirs was an affair of the heart. They both never stopped loving one another....

I think Desi wrote his autobiography called A BOOK, which ended with his and Lucy's 1960 divorce; a sequel never materialized. I don't think Lucy ever wrote anything herself, but then...so many other people wrote about her.....

I agree with ya Betsy. An affair of the heart.

Desi's "A Book" is a wonderful, funny, shocking, strange, amazing, twisted, and did I mention wonderful book! I highly recommend anyone read it. It does have swearing and sex in it if you're sensitive to that, just a warning.

Lucy's autobiography, "Love, Lucy," is equally as wonderful!! I've read it three times and would read it again!

You get a sense from both books of the love these two felt for each other and the hardships they endured. I cried.

Oh, if you want more books to read, try "Lucille" by Kathleen Brady that I mentioned in my previous post. Also "Desilu." Next time I look at my bookshelf, I'll post more great books.

Oh, just remembered one called "Lucy & Desi" by Warren G. Harris. This one isn't being published (I got mine on Ebay), but try the library or Ebay. It's great too.

Well, during that move "Lucy & Desi: A home Movie," they had faiyl and friends talking. Someone said that Lucy always said (even after she divorced him) that Desi was the love of her life. Someone also said that Desi would always cry for Lucy. Then at the very end, Lucie Arnaz showed a home video of Lucy and Desi (right before he died I believe) in her pool with their grandson Simon. Lucy told Desi to speak Spanish to Simon and it was just so cute!!

its actually pretty sad how their marriage was in real life. there were not many good memories off camera and in the real world. on camera you could never tell. in real life, the air cried with " dont hurt me please, please desi, no." The person that played little ricky recalls alot of violence in the Arnez home. and its hard to believe how sad and hurt lucy really was.

From what I've read, I don't think Desi did any physical harm to Lucy. I do remember that Keith Thibodeaux, who played Little Ricky, said that he was at the Arnaz home one time and saw Desi beat someone up (a worker or something) because he made some negative comments about Desi's children. But I never remember him saying that he beat Lucy up.
