Default Overrated and Underrated artists

Overrated

The "The" Bands- NME worshiped all of these bands and even though some of them are good, I don't see what the big deal was. The Vines are just annoying, The Strokes sound too...standard.

Nirvana- I like the band a lot but they have to be one of the most overrated bands to come out of the 90's. I don't see how people can call Kurt a 'genius' and I don't think Nevermind is 'the greatest album of all time' or anything close to it.

Oasis- I like them but they're definatly overrated and not all that original.

Zwan's new album-It's alright but Billy overproduced the hell out of it...

Underrated

silverchair- yes, I will admit their earlier work wasn't the best or the most original but they were only 14....but they're older now.... and their lastest album deserves way more attention then it's getting outstide of Australia. It's very good.

Res- Very good R&B singer with an interesting voice and well written songs. The debut single got some attention but there was very little marketing put behind it to have it attract more attention.

Paz Lenchantin- She has played bass for a perfect circle, zwan, Queen of the Stone Age. She also did the piano and strings for TRUSTcompany's latest album. Yet people still write her off as Billy Corgan Girl Bassist #3 without knowing how talented she is.

Tool- I'm sorry, but for such a proliffic and diferent band compared to most bands that get played on the radio today, they don't get the attention they deserve.

OVERRATED:
Whitney Houston- what's the big deal?
Janet Jackson- her music consists of too much moaning, and her voice is annoying nasal!
Alicia Keys- WOW she plays a piano!
Norah Jones- She did not deserve all those Grammy's.
Madonna- she took risks--- so did many other artists.

UNDERRATED:
Cody Chesnutt- do you know who he is?
Ben Harper- you will hear about him soon.
Christina Aguilera- Stripped is one the best albums of 2003. Her talent is covered by her trashy image, "Walk Away," "Beautiful," and "I'm OK" have to be some of the best songs to hit the pop industry in a few years.
Saves the Day- possible one of the best bands around.
Shanice- she has an amazing voice. Her Arista debut, Shanice is one of the most underrated records of all-time.

I resent that. Nirvana was a huge influence in 90's rock, and the most influetial band to come from the 90's. Kurt's lyrics (as well as videos) were very profound.

But I do agree with you about Tool, way underrated. Overrated? Britney Spears............no comment. I dont wanna have someone jump on my back for the comments I could make.

Bands like Sonic Youth, Mudhoney, Green River, etc. deserve more credit than Nirvana does, they invented the sound Nirvana was influenced by. Kurts lyrics were good but there were better lyricists out there. The main reason why I say they're overrated is because there are so many bands who were more original and had a bigger influence in the 90's than they did.

John Lennon was very underrated. Paul McCartney got a lot of publicity but he was not overrated IMO. George Harrison was also underrated, maybe Ringo Starr, too.

No, I mean how the media presents them to be this big important band, when really there are other bands who deserve the credit more than them. Like people putting Nevermind at number 2 for the greatest album of all time. There are so many albums that deserve to be at #2 more than Nevermind.
