Default honors

Okay. Right now we are deciding what classes to take enxt fall. Well this year I took the standard c.p. english course. i ahve the capability to take honors, so at the end of the year we asked my teacher if is hgould or not. She said she didn't see why not. zSo for a while i was planning tot ake honors english. Recently, my friend told me honors is practically the smae as reg english only there is a lot more reading and writing involved. Also, it doesn't raise your GPA, the class is a regular 4.0. So now I can't decide what to take. Do colleges really tlook at the honors or what your grade was??? please help....

I've been taking honors and ap classes for three years now, and I'm fairly sure colleges look at them more closely. I've heard rumors that the gpa will be changed to a 5.0 scale for students taking the honor classes, but I'm not sure if it is true or when it will happen.
Hope this helps!

Most of the time honors classes make your GPA higher... like say instead of getting 4 points for an "A" you get 5, and instead of getting 3 for a "B" you get "4".. and so on and so on.

I've been taking Honors English since freshman year. I like it so better than regular English just because your with people who are at your level. I've sat in at regular 11th grade English classes one time and I would be bored out of my mind if I was in that class. I say go for it.

Yeah, I agree. Regular English is more boring - as my teacher took every opportunity to tell us last semester.

Honors English helps A LOT, trust me. Most of the English stuff I needed for college came from there.

Honors English is way more fun. Lots of interesting people...well, at least at my school.

take honors. Most colleges want you to take the most rigorous schedule possible in high school. Honors english will also help you to better prepare for your sat, college, etc. Go for it! You will benefit from taking a challenging course.

Definitely take honors. I'm not sure how yours work, but the courses at my former high school were called AP level courses, which enable you to take the AP exam. The scores on the AP exam range from 1 to 5; I think you get college credit for your courses if you get either a 4 or 5 (might be a 3, not sure).

Either way, a college will look at those courses and see that you were in an advanced level. Not only that, but those are "Advanced College Preparatory" classes--that means they're preparing you for college. It's a good idea to be as prepared for college as possible, it'll be easier for you to transition.

Yah, take honors, colleges look for someone who pushes themselves academically as well

like for instance Im taking AP US History next year when I kno I wont get an A or prob even a B+ while in Acc. I could get a high grade, but colleges like to see kids pushing themselves..thats why I take honors/acc/ap classes

Wow! I don't even understand a lot of what you are all talking about. The grading system has changed a lot since I was in school many moons ago!

Anyway, go ahead and take honors english. When I was a senior in high school I took our version of that, and it wasn't even really an english class. The class was called "Western World Ideas" and we mostly studied achetypes and aesthetics.

Way more interesting.
