Which of the two actors that played the role of Frank Stephens, Darren's father does the group think was the best. Robert F. Simon or Roy Roberts? Even though Roberts was a wonderful veteran actor and was very busy on TV in the '60's I've always preferred Simon who appeared more frequently in the role and somehow looked more like he could be Dick York's father Also he flirted with Endora better as well!! .

Simon for me, too. I think that it's in "Samantha Meets the Folks", where Darrin, Frank, and Phyllis Stephens are all arguing in the kitchen- and they sound like they actually could be related!
"Then there's no argument!" "Then there's no argument!" "No argument!"

Robert F. Simon - to me, he WAS Frank just like Dick York WAS Darrin. Darrin's pop had such a great sense of humor, was a lot of fun and adored his daughter-in-law Samantha. What's not to love?

I was use to seeing Roy Roberts and I had to get use to Robert Simon. Anyone know why Roy replaced him?.

Just had to say that I've read Dick York's autobiography and have seen a pic of his dad - Robert F. Simon does actually look quite alot like him!! So I would say Simon.

^ I own that book and it never occured to me that both his real dad and TV dad looked like each other, but you're right!! On the other hand, his mother looked absolutely nothing like Mabel Albertson.

Mabel had a long TV career (and movies too) where she played these nagging, uppity, domineering women. And the animosity you saw between Endora and and Phyllis wasn't all acting either ![]() I would love to see an episode of Mabel's first sitcom regular role as the mom on "Those Whiting Girls", the summer replacement for "I Love Lucy" in 1953 and 1955, I think. And yea, this makes my 1,000 post I'm a senior at last! Where are my benefits?

Connections with the author of I Love the Illusion, Agnes bio. Agnes and Mabel were both strong willed women and they had a personality clash. They respected each other, but they did not socialize. |

Robert F. Simon appeared on TZ so he wins by default.
