Excuse me while I use a literary reference.
Anyway, does anyone remember this story- Lucy (pre marriage) lived in the same apartment building as Shelia Graham. Shelia was seeing F. Scott Fitzgerald (who wrote TGG). Those two used to watch Lucy and Desi fight as she tried to get him to stay instead of going home to his mother's. As I reread TGG, I kept thinking about that! |

Well, not many people would know or remember that story, it is very interesting. Sheilah was the one who got hell from Lucy when she mentionned her miscarriages in her column and also all her fights with Desi. Lucy called her up and let her have it, saying you don't care, you already have kids, but i don't.

"The Great Gatsby" is one of my favorite books. Its cool that Fitzgerald has a Lucy connetion. A pretty bad move of Lucy to live in the same building as a gossip columnist, lol!!!! She must have had to be constantly on her guard, being really careful about what she said and did in her building. Why did Desi resist staying at Lucy's? From what I understood, they had practically moved in together from the time "Too Many Girls" started, and he brought his mother out to CA to keep up his apartment for the sake of appearances. Maybe I heard wrong?

I think it was something about having to go home to his mother. Maybe she wasn't aware of how much of a relationship they had...and maybe it was appearances, like you said.

I don't think Lucy worried too much about her image back then, and as for not saying anything to Sheila, Lucy was probably as UP FRONT as she always was. I just got the Barbara Walters COMPLETE interview with Lucy and she doesn't shy away from ANY subject, she even again mentions her propensity for PLAYING GAMES, and she adds, i don't mean Scrabble!
