Thumbs down Hummer Commercials

Can you believe those Hummer commercials? At this time in history they have the audacity to advertise a vehicle that gets, oh, I don't know, 8 miles to the gallon. In one commercial a 'cute' (blahwwa!) couple is driving on the beach. In another one a woman, all by her lonesome, is driving in the gigantic, canary-yellow vehicle through town and country. It's obsene. I'll bet that the Hummer people will be hearing about their extremely poor judgement.

I haven't seen the ad yet, but I'll be on the lookout for it. I tape most of my shows and buzz by the commercials which could explain why I missed it.
Do you think the ad is in poor taste because, in this economy, who can afford that sort of luxury...or for environmental reasons or both? Just curious.
I never even heard of the Hummer...who makes it? Man, am I out of touch or what.
It's gotta be new. Please at least tell me it's new, lol.

It's not new, lol. It's been around for a long time. But it used to be considered as a military vehicle or for fire fighting and like that. Now it is being advertised as the ultimate SUV for those who are competing for top-notch-statis-yuppiness with the Jones's next door. The reason I say that their timing could not be worse is because of the 'terror' situation and the understandable disgust the world has about America's consupmtion of oil. If you haven't seen the vehicle I'm sure that you'll be shocked when you do. It is one big, really big, puppy.

It sounds like it's in poor taste. I don't like those extra huge SUVs on the road anyway. Dateline did a show where it profiled those types of vehicles, and they've actually sheared the roofs off smaller vehicles. I hate to say this, but people have been decapitated by them. They're too high off the ground. It's like people driving tanks around.
Lots of people who drive these things get a feeling of superiority on the road that is frightening.
I agree about the oil thing too...for reasons you stated and for the environment.
It sounds like Madison Avenue botched this commercial. What's next? O.J. Simpson selling knives.
