Moving Pictures without a doubt. Permanent Waves is second for me.

CA, what was your previous name?

On topic

I never listened to a song much less an album by Rush, so I can't choose.

My previous names were Blair's My Cherry Pie and Tad Warner.

BUT YOU ARE IN FOR SUCH A TREAT WITH LISTENING TO RUSH!!!!!
Their albums from the 70's had entire epics on album sides full of
cool concepts with GREAT music, (2112, Hemispheres)
their 80's albums were updated with more "commercial" sounds with keyboards and killer guitar work (Moving Pictures, Power Windows), and their 90's albums were more of a return to their basic heavy sound (Counterparts, Test For Echo). Their latest album Vapor Trails has no keyboards at all.

70's, 'prog' era Rush wins it for me. But not w/ 2112. (although it's a great album) A Farewell to Kings & Hemispheres lead the pack for me.

Early 80s Rush comes in 2nd.

The latest album kicks major arse though!

Cool Manhattan Project

Here are the lyrics from a song off 1985's Power Windows album, a song about the atomic bomb's impact.

MANHATTAN PROJECT
Words by Neil Peart, Music by Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson

Imagine a time
When it all began In the dying days of a war
A weapon -- that would settle the score
Whoever found it first
Would be sure to do their worst --
They always had before...

Imagine a man
Where it all began A scientist pacing the floor
In each nation -- always eager to explore
To build the best big stick
To turn the winning trick --
But this was something more...

The big bang -- took and shook the world
Shot down the rising sun
The end was begun -- it would hit everyone
When the chain reaction was done
The big shots -- try to hold it back
Fools try to wish it away
The hopeful depend on a world without end
Whatever the hopeless may say

Imagine a place
Where it all began
They gathered from across the land
To work in the secrecy of the desert sand
All of the brightest boys
To play with the biggest toys --
More than they bargained for...

Imagine a man
When it all began
The pilot of "Enola Gay"
Flying out of the shockwave
On that August day
All the powers that be
And the course of history
Would be changed for evermore...

Sorry, I have to go with Chronicles. It covered not only the radio 'hits' but alot of songs you don't hear on the radio much or at all. Trees, Distant Early Warning, & Subdivisions all rock!!!

the first time I heard Subdivisions, I thought he was saying "come form a big cast out". Oh well, I was about 10 when it came out, so I guess you can forgive it

I remember over 20 years ago, where they used to have the old J.C. Penney's store in downtown Seattle, someone had spray painted those words from "Subdivisions" on a wall where they were doing construction:

"CONFORM OR BE CAST OUT!"

One of my favorite Rush songs. Also "Grace Under Pressure" is an underrated album, with songs like "Early Distant Warning", "Red Sector A", "Kid Gloves", and others.

I wonder if JC Penney actually realized that the song was actually speaking against self selling out?

I always thought the lyrics were a view of the blandness of suburban teen life. (as it was back then, at least)

Gotta be Moving Pictures.

Red Barchetta, Vital Signs, Tom Sawyer...

Great stuff.
