I am wondering about the trading of tapes in various generations. Most of the stuff I have taped is 2nd generation (I cut out commercials from the originals taped off of TV...I can't staaaaaaand most of them!).
Is the generation of your tapes an issue for the most part? I haven't seen anything listed here to that affect. Thanks a bunch!

I'd rather a tape be no lower than second generation because you start losing the picture quality when you get into third generation and up. Most of what I have is no lower than second generation but it's also a matter of choice too.

It depends on the material too. Some shows are so rare and hard to come by, you take 'em how you can get 'em.
