Question Wisdom Tooth

I have a wisdom tooth coming in and it's almost through. I just wanted to know if anyone knows how long it takes and when it will stop hurting. I don't know much about wisdom teeth so I figured I'd ask people who have already gone through it. Mine hurts really bad but it's coming in straight and all so I don't think I'll have to have it cut out. At least I hope not.

You have one coming in too? I'm about to blow my brains out from the pain! I'm taking aleve and it helps some, but I'm going nuts from the pain. Nice to know I'm not alone.

All four of mine were removed in 1994. They didn't hurt but they were impacted (sideways). Dentists use the term "erupt" to mean coming in. Mine were only partially erupted and this means they can decay easily, so out they went. BTW, I have not noticed any difference w/out them. I hope the pain you have is only temporary. I'm not sure how long it takes for wisdom teeth to come in; I checked a few of my medical books, but that subject is not mentioned. If yours are causing you pain, I would see a dentist (also, for now, try Advil for pain). If I can find any more info, I'll post it here.

Thanks, but I can only take Aleve. Tylenol and Advil never help me with headaches or anything else thats why I rely on Aleve. Well, as much as I can see it's pretty straight and almost all the way through. Do you think I'll still have to get it removed?

I'm guessing the pain is caused by the teeth breaking through the gumline. If they are coming in straight and not crowding against any other teeth, I don't see why they would have to come out. In fact, even impacted wisdom teeth are sometimes left alone as long as they don't cause any pain or decay. Let's hope you can keep yours.

I've had a lot of experience with dentists. I've had numerous fillings and quite a few crowns (caps) put in.

While on this subject, if anyone's dentist says you have gingivitis (the beginning of gum disease) try using toothpaste with tea tree oil. I had to have a root planing/scaling because my gums were inflamed and right after that I used tea tree oil. The dentist never mentioned again that my gums were inflammed! Have not needed any other treatment to my gums since then. It's been at least 5 years.

Same here, although the dentist says I have them, they haven't hurt one bit so as long as they don't hurt I guess I'm ok.

If it's hurting, it's gotta be removed. AT least that what I think.. my wisdom teeth are coming in too... the Denist says I don't have room for them in my mouth.. BUT I have no pain, and he said that since it wasn't hurting, that I dind't need 'em taken out.. not yet at least.

Question

I've got one wisdom tooth coming through at the moment. It doesn't hurt and it's not forcing any of my other teeth outta the way so my dentist says I can just leave it.
It's been there for about 8 months but it's hardly grown at all. Anyone know how long wisdom teeth take to grow in completely - is it different from regular teeth?

I've had my wisdom teeth for a long time and for the most part, they haven't given me too much trouble. There are a few in particular, that get sore and then are ok.I wouldn't have them removed, unless it was absolutely necessary.

Thanks for all the responses. Still no word about how long it takes for it to come through, but I guess that differs from person to person.
