Default Why Did Lamont need a Babysitter at the age of 32?

The only criticism i have about Sanford and Son is having the Grady character move in with Lamont like he was a child. The writers could have just let Lamont live alone with more appearances from Rollo and mentioning Fred's name in each episode he wasn't in. But to have Grady move in the Sanford Home and fix meals for Lamont like he was a child was just crazy. I don't like The Grady Episodes because Lamont was too old to have someone take the place of his father. Anyone agree?

I absolutely agree. I have a question to ask about Grady whether he was related to Fred or not, since Lamont's middle name was Grady.I agree with you about the part about Grady being the babysitter so to speak. Lamont could have handled things very well by himself. Getting back to the relationship between Fred and Grady, were they related in any way to one other, maybe cousins perhaps???

I am not sure why Lamont neeeded Grady around. but i'm sure glad they did put him there with lamont. I liked grady but when he was alone with no fred i disliked him now that Freds back i think he's a great charactor.

The episode when Grady didn't allow Lamont to have company really didn't make sense. A grown 32 year old man hadto check with his father's friend to have friends come over. I'm surprised Demond wilson was okay with playing that dumb role of having Grady babysit him. If it was me I would have said no way.

Was he, really? He was quoted as being fine w/ that? My 1st guess would've been he *didn't* like it, but had no choice & was "overruled" by the producers. But I agree, no way if it were me.

There's a simple explanation why Grady was babysitting Lamont. The scripts were already written when Redd Foxx walked out in a contract dispute. Rather than come up with new scripts they just substituted Grady for Fred in the scripts. Add a brief explanation that Fred was in St. Louis and then churn out the episode. Cheaper than paying the writers for new scripts and new stories.
