I was just in the Bahamas and a local there told me that Gilligan's Island was filmed on an island there in the Bahamas? Is this true or was someone pulling my leg?

i don't know about the very beginning of the show, but later on it was shot at studio city in L.A california at CBS studios

The Pilot episode i think was filmed somewhere in Hawaii

I was told the same thing. They took us to the island and we spent a day there. We even bought a map of the island and on it is printed Gilligan's Island

The Pilot was filmed in Hawaii, but the rest of the series was filmed in a studio in CBS Studio Center, except for a few episodes at the lagoon, but that probably wasn't a real lagoon, but a synthetic lake they built. The island you see in the title screen is not real, but a small scale model built in a pool or something. Yes folks, appearances can indeed be deceiving.
