I really liked it. I was very impressed by how cheerful everyone still looks, and Tinasmylife, they could have been a lot meaner than they were. My roommate watched it with me, and she's never seen the show, but it totally hooked her.

Come on somebody tell me what the end was about! I just kept flipping the tv between the movie and something else. I wished I had taped it, but I was recording All in the Family.
------------------ Hottest Men alive: Dale Midkiff Anthony Starke Tim McGraw Jonathan Crombie Lumpy: Did you go out for anything, Dud? Dudley: Well, I went out for football, but I got my finger stepped on, so my mother made me quit. Eddie: Well listen-- I went out for basketball and I got my hair pulled, and my mother made ME quit. Dudley: It's not that I was afraid of getting hurt or anything; it's just that-- well, it's kind o' hard to play the flute with a busted finger. [Eddie and Lumpy suppress laughter] Dale Midkiff is my man!

I loved it! I thought it was really good, but there were a few sad parts. (Get me a Kleenex. lol). I thought the beginning was a little annoying (the Jerry Van Dyke thing was funny though), but once they went back to the 60s and had the younger actors in it more, it was good.
I totally love Natalie Schafer after this movie too. I have this whole new respect for her and she was just so funny! lol. I didn't think she was that similar to Mrs. Howell in real life. There were some weird parts, but overall I loved it! ~Courtney [This message has been edited by JWood201 (edited 10-15-2001).] |

I enjoyed the movie last night. I wasn't aware that it was going to be on - so the surprise factor made it that much more fun.
Because it was part 'reunion' and part movie It took a little while for me to get use to the dramatization aspect of it. I was touched by Natalie Schaeffer's story and of course I've seen the E! True Hollywood story so it was fun to see how they dramatized those stories! I thought the actors playing 'Gilligan' and 'Skipper' were great. I loved Dawn Wells - and have always been a 'Maryanne' fan. Though 'Ginger' and even 'Lovey Howell' had a certain 'quality'! I wonder how quickly Tina Louise fired her agent! Talk about type casting sheeesh!! Ed |

Let me start with my comments on the portrayal of the actors. I think that the portrayal was the best of all of the other movies in which they had docudramas of television shows (The Partridge Family, The Brady Bunch, and now Gilligan's Island). I think that the portrayals (am I spelling that right?) were wonderful. I think that the person that looked least like their character was the guy playing Thurston Howell III, but when I heard his laugh (almost EXACTLY like Jim Backus'), I was sold. They all did wonderfully, and the chemistry was just great.
I think that the scenes with the actors were also wonderful. I really liked seeing the dramatic parts as sort of flashbacks, and having the actors sort of narrate. I really enjoyed it, and thought it was very original compared to other similar projects. (The Partridge Family docudrama just had Danny Bonaduce narrate the whole thing, and Growing Up Brady had sort of a little scene before the movie started, and then Barry Williams narrating the whole thing with an appearance at the end.) All in all, I thought it was a great movie and plan on trying to get the movie on video from Columbia House. |

Be wary of evil Columbia House. I noticed that tape was $10 with a subscription. I'm figuring that means you have to buy all kinds of tapes from them? They are good for releasing a handful of expensive tapes, then halting production entirely. Many times these tapes are in LP or SLP speed with so-so quality.

Not all the time. Columbia House can be good too, or at least, not that cheap. They will probably sell you the tape, and it will probably be a good copy in SP, then they will keep your name and address and try and send you junk mail for all eternity. That's what I've experienced.

Bob, Dawn and Russell were terrific!! A professional, tasteful, and bittersweet production!!
I loved the movie!! Sure, maybe it won't win an Emmy Award, but it was very well done. I commend the fact that it wasn't a 'kiss and tell' sensationalistic portrayal! And yea, it was a little sappy, but sappiness was a vital ingredient to the series. Watching the movie as an adult, made me feel like I did watching the orginal as a child. The movies was also exceptionally classy when it came to Tina Louise. I can't help but think she's missing out on the joy and comeraderie the show produed by not being at peace with the experience. I too have a deeper admiration for Natalie Schaefer. And miss Alan Hale and Jim Bakus. |
