I'm not into heavy metal, but I'm wondering if anyone is a fan of this band? Of course, they were the band playing when the Rhode Island fire broke out.
I heard one of the band members is missing and presumed dead. Did they ever have a mainstream hit that I might recognize? |

I'm not a fan, but as an avid music lover, I know who they are. They had a hit in the late '80s (or early '90s?) called "Once Bitten, Twice Shy." You might remember that one.

I'll try to download Once Bitten. It may be too busy today. I can't access the band's website either. It's such a shame all around.

Great White are a band that has been around since the early 80's
as part of the "pop"-metal scene that was popular on MTV. They are known for more bluesy-oriented songs in the vein of bands like Whitesnake. Their hits include "Save Your Love" (a great slow song with a really cool guitar solo), "Rock Me", "Mistah Bone", "House of Broken Love" (MY FAVORITE!!!! Really blues-type guitar, I remember learning how to play it back in '90),of course "Once Bitten, Twice Shy" (actually a cover of a Mott the Hoople song in the 70's). They came out with a song a few years ago that I thought sounded really good called "Rolling Stoned" (not to be confused with "Too Rolling Stoned" by Robin Trower). I remember I wanted to see their show up in Seattle in the fall of '99 with Dokken at one club. Jack Russell is a really good singer. His mother was an advice columnist several years ago for Metal Edge magazine. Funny how a guy can have the same name as the type of dog on Frazier... Of course, this club fire is a terrible tragedy and my thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of the victims. I also hope that Great White will still carry on and continue to put out great music for years to come. |

From the news reports so far, it looks like Great White may be in serious trouble. Of course, it has to be proven that they used the pyrotechnics without permission. The club owners claim they never gave the okay.
Former clubs are coming forth and saying that this is a pattern with the band. The truth will come out eventually. |

They were denied permission to use pyrotechnics at the Ballard Firehouse in Seattle some months back... (The Ballard Firehouse...how oddly appropriate. Even though it's a rock club now, it makes you think...) I wonder if THEY, instead of Def Leppard, should've named an album Pyromania...

Isn't it strange, though, that the biggest music story this year so far involves an 80's L.A. pop-metal band active way past its prime
who endangered so many lives in a devastating fire... Like their lyrics go, "You're dealing with the Devil, with no help from above...in this house of broken love." |

Have just read reports that the CLUB may actually be to blame
due to buying cheap foam padding that was easily flammable... |

The club was inspected in December, so they're looking into the possibility that the inspector was negligent. My feeling is that there's enough blame to go around--the club owners, the inspectors and Great White. Such a tragic story. |
