Default Girl dies after latenight cab ride near San Diego

I wanted to track down the uncaring taxi driver and belt him in the mouth, or worse, after watching this one.

The young girl called a cab, and asked about the fare for a significant journey. She told him she only had $18, apparently not quite enough, but he told her to get in the cab anyway.

But when the meter clicked to 18 bucks, and even though they were atop a cliff near the ocean, the moron cabbie pulled over and insisted the girl get out, instead of merely forfeiting a few dollars out of his pocket and delivering her safely. He could have even asked her to mail him the difference, which happened a few times successfully with a former roommate of mine who was a cab driver.

Upon daybreak, the girl was found dead at the bottom of the cliff. I don't think they could determine if she had been murdered, or fallen accidentally. If someone remembers her name, I would appreciate it. The Lifetime rebroadcasts I've seen have not featured an update.

Plus, whenever I see this segment I'm reminded that the depiction is entirely dependent on his account of the incident. If anything, he slanted in his favor, so who knows what might have actually transpired.

I don't think they ever knew the girl's identity. Seems like her case was featured with 1 or 2 other "cold cases" that detectives were still trying to solve years after the fact. It also angered me that the cab driver just left her stranded in the middle of the night. If I remember correctly, she was wearing "thirft store clothes" and the only item found in her purse was a motel key. One of the other cases involved the discovery of two bodies (possibly a brother and sister) who had been shot to death in a car. To my knowledge, neither of these cases has been solved.

Default I remember the sketch of the brother/sister murdered in their car

Thank you, rerungirl, for reminding of it.

If I'm correct, that case was quite old, from the '70s, and occured in the South, possibly North Carolina. At least from the sketch, it seemed like a strange case to go unsolved, since the couple appeared reasonably affluent and as if they would be missed, and their disappearance pursued.

Grrr... those are two cases which I have never seen and Lifetime had no excuse not to re-air them with the newer cases from 2001 and 2002.

There are some links on the Jane Doe in question (including the Doe Network profile, which claims that the cause of death was suicide):

Are those pictures difficult to look at?

They're composite sketches. Sad, but not gruesome or anything.

Default Hmm...

This may seem like a dumb question, but is there any cause to believe that the young woman was a victim of foul play? Unless I'm misunderstood, I was under the impression that she asked the cab driver to take her as far as $18 would go. The fact that her belongings were found stacked neatly at the edge of the cliff tells me that she really did intend to take her own life.

Just my thoughts. If I'm missing something, I would love to know.

I was very surprised to see my old early 2003 thread atop page one. That segment has been on Lifetime although not frequently. I remember seeing it a year or so ago and being surprised so much info was available online regarding the murdered couple, after I did some research. They had a website with multiple links including the actual morgue photos not the sketches, which looked much different. I'm still amazed that case has never been solved.

The UM depiction of the San Diego cab ride had the girl intending to go further, into a city area. The cab driver balked at "losing" a few bucks and dumped her at the $18 mark on the meter. Frankly, I'm surprised he didn't stop at $16 and then insist on a $2 tip.

It's certainly possible it was a suicide. If I wrote this thread today my emphasis and tone would be somewhat different. I noticed one of Kane's links indicated it was listed as suicide. The other link gave the info about the woman's purse that went missing 10 years earlier. Truly bizarre. I'd never heard that before.

This thread is several years old, so the Doe Network link is dead. Can someone point me to a new link? I'd like to see the pictures.

Usually the old .us links can be fixed by replacing the .us with .org, though I've run into a few where it hasn't worked. I think those were hot cases, though. Not sure, anyway, that link works.

According to the Doe Network profile, the cab driver let her out of his cab at the corner of Cove Road and Scenic Drive in Dana Point, California. Here are two images I pulled off of google maps which show the satellite photos of this area.

This is the zoomed out version. Notice how isolated that particular area is compared to all of the civilization to the north and especially the east of the area. It also appears that the area to the northwest is currently under some construction:

It also mentions that her body was found near Bluff Road and Site Drive. Those two streets no longer exist because they have been removed for the new construction going on, but I am almost 100% certain that she met her demise by jumping off of the cliff directly south of Scenic Drive:

I am sorry for the size of the images, but I just wanted to show the most detail that I possibly could.

I think it is always an experience when these websites, locations that did not exist at the time most UM stories originally aired, turn up and reveal to us many of the details from the stories that were held back in order to aid in confirming whether or not a source or lead was good or bad. Kind of puts a new slant on MANY of these cases that have become embetted in our genetic material after all these years.

To-Wit: The UM segment on the Sand Diego Jane Doe did not, to the best of my knowledge, ever make mention of the purse with the name on it or the fact that the person had borne a child.

This strikes a cord in me...I think I'll open a new thread dedicated to this topic.

Enjoy.
