I'm so incredibly shaken up and upset. I live on the east coast where it's doing a lot of blizzard snowing. I had to work away all weekend and I didn't expect that on the way home the salt trucks would not have been out in full force. My boss drove in front of me and I followed her down the interstate. We were headed towards a bridge when my car started to fishtail and it completely spun out of control. We did 2 complete 360 turns out of complete control and hit the bridge concrete on the outside. My little girl just screamed and I felt so out of control. We both appear to be okay - scared, but okay.
Something that upset me more than wrecking is that when I called my mom to tell her what happened, she acted like nothing was happening and she said "Okay, be careful getting home". I was devastated and got into a very big fight right there on the phone with her, in the middle of the snow in the middle of the interstate. I'm now without a car and without the means to buy a new one, dealing with some major fear and in the midst of a huge fight with my mom. My daughter is fine - she's very shaken up and she's been very clingy all night long (which is fine, I'm clinging right back to her) and I'm in a rut now. I like winter, but boy I'll be glad to not have to in the snow pretty soon. I've never wrecked before, been driving for 13 years, I've only had one traffic citation - this has been a terrible ordeal.

I don't see how she could have stayed that calm in a situation like that. You'd think she would've at least offered sympathy.

All things considered the fact that she acted like she did does not surprise me at all unfortunately. I was upset that she did not offer to come and pick my daughter and I up, that she didn't ask how her own granddaughter was, that she didn't want to be with me. I might be "old" (30's) but I was still scared. My friends husband drove 20 miles out of his way and then 25 more to get me home. Thank goodness for him. |

I've had similar experiences so I know exactly how rattled you must feel. I also know how you feel about your mother's reaction. Try to give that one a rest until you get your nerves under control. It might be that she just doesn't deal well with unexpected bad news. But....if later on you find that she is still insensitive to what hapened to you and your daughter...give her hell, lol, she deserves it.
Best wishes getting through this. Sincerely!

aw, thanks.
Well I found out today I have full collision coverage on my car. So I will be getting something (not much though, the car is old and a piece of crap) for the car towards a new one. I can't afford a brand new car so I'll be buying something used. I also have car rental on my insurance (shocking, I did not know that) so tomorrow I can rent a car. That way I can get to work and get my daughter to school for the week while I look for a used car. |

I'm sorry that you were in an accident. I have been involved in one also that shook me up, although it had nothing to do with the weather. I was at a complete stop and had my right turn signal on and waiting for the traffic to clear so that I could turn and some guy didn't break and got my rear bumper. I was about to get out of the car to exchange info with him and he drove off. I think that's what made me the most upset. I still get nervous when a person pulls up behind me while I'm waiting on a light or at a stop sign.
