Cool

I think the Howells packing a year's worth of clothes for a three-hour tour is one of those cases where you have to suspend disbelief.
Same goes for the fact that the Professor took enough books with him to stock a library. He did take the tour for research, but notice how he has a reference book for every problem that occurs on the Island.
A lot of the episodes had silly, unbelievable plots too.
The show had holes big enough to drive a truck through, yet despite all this, it was a really entertaining show. I still watch it most every night.

...come on now. No one needs to mention the 'holes' in the show. Each episode stands on its own. There are only a few episodes which link together. Episodes like Wrongway Feldman and The Return of Wrongway. There are some others but I think you get the picture. Welcome to the mind of Sherwood Schwartz...wacky...yet contemprary at its time (ie-Cold War issues, the Space Race, current music trends, spy themes, technology and robots...) GI is classic!! Comedy at its best. Totally unique and off the wall. I love it and enjoy for what it is.
Absolute comic genius!!

I too love Gilligan's Island and enjoy it for what it is--a funny show with implausible plots--like many shows of the 60s...I Dream of Jeanie, Bevery Hillbillies, Green Acres. There are some others, but I think you get the picture.
As for the *no one needs to mention* comment....well, this is a message board, not a tribute board, where people post their comments and opinions. No censorship needed.

Talking

Gilligan's Island was a funny show at times. I saw it the other night after not having seen it in decades. The only thing I didn't like about it was the laugh track was so loud. Also the loud laughing at even the most minor of jokes got to be annoying. I'd noticed the same thing when I saw McCale's Navy a couple of weeks ago. The laugh track seemed to be twice as loud as the dialog. It made the show unwatchable. Plus the jokes were not funny but according to the laugh track the jokes were hilarious.

Um... right. Getting back to the clothes:

The Howells packed that many clothes because they're the Howells! Think about it. If they would bring three suitcases full of money for a three-hour tour, what's to stop them from bringing ten trunks of clothing?

The rest of the castaways clothes are a mystery. Bob Denver said that they considered making an episode to explain the clothes, but they decided not to, because it's a fantasy. Also it leaves something for us to speculate on.

As to the holes, very true. I've noticed many, but I don't let it bug me. It's a cute, silly show. It only lasted for three years; 98 episodes, but the fact that we're still watching it in 2001 should give the show some credit!
