I want to know your opinions on the old-school format (1st 4 seasons), or the crash-tv format (going from scene to scene quickly). It seems "Seinfeld" & "Friends" really perfected the art of crash-tv around 1993, and there's been no looking back for most sit-coms sice then (except for CBS). If you go back to the early "Seinfeld" episodes, Jerry Seinfeld is actually a very talented actor. It surprises me because other than his short-lived "Benson" role, I don't think he did much acting at all. George is a slightly different character, and Jason Alexander plays the character differently in the earlier shows. In the later years, Jerry is even more funnier, but has that stigma of "I'm a funny rich comedian who can't act". We know from the early shows that he can act, but it was just that because the scenes moved so quickly, it was a whole-new style. "Not that there's anything wrong with that". Remember when Jerry was snubbed at the Oscars every year?
I believe both formats were great because they were so different from each other. I'm glad I can watch the older episodes for the change of pace & I like the fact there were two different formats. It makes te show better overall. But which format was better & why? The old-schhol, subtle comedy; or the nonstop crash-tv highjinks humor? You decide... |

I prefer the older episodes & the older format simply because the shows were better written. They were more "hungrier" back then, & that's why I think the "Old-School" shows were better! Anybody else think so?
